Building Hanover Park - an AI-native fund admin. 

The CTO at a $20 billion firm asked me point blank:

“Why can’t I just build AI portfolio tools that connect to our data?”

I love this question.

It surprised me because…

He already spends millions on existing SaaS tools that don’t talk to each other.

But I get it. Right now, every CTO and CFO is under a lot of pressure.

They must have an answer to a question from their GPs:

“How are we using AI to make our firm run 10x better?”

And everyone feels stuck with 2 options:

1) Enter the war for talent to hire engineers to build internal tools
2) Buy insanely expensive SaaS tools that don’t talk to each other

Hanover Park exists because everyone needs a fund admin. You pay us to do your financial reporting, capital calls and distributions.

But by being your fund admin, it unlocks something magical.

We have full context on your firm. We are booking the investments. We are updating LP contacts. We are delivering reporting.

And this enables us to bundle in more point solution SaaS tools for free alongside core fund admin services.

The past few weeks have been intense: ~80 hours/week.

Here’s what that’s looked like:
- Weekdays: 8:30 AM – 9:30 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 6 PM
- Sunday: 10 AM – 8 PM

Not posting this to glorify it - just the reality of building something we believe in.

Last week, the CFO of a $1.5B VC firm made a confession.

He's hacking together Quickbooks, Excel and monthly fund admin emails for intercompany payables. 

And he thought the only solution was a full-time finance hire.

Now, most funds pay bills from the management company on behalf of their funds and reimburse it back every quarter. 

But this creates an “intercompany payable” – meaning money owed between funds and management company that you track. 

Currently, here’s what this firm did: 

1) Manual entries in QuickBooks 
2) Manually tracking intercompany payables balances in Excel 
3) Monthly emails to fund admin 
4) Zero visibility into outstanding balances 

This is a terribly painful process. But perfect for Hanover Park. 

Why? 

We built an automated intercompany payables module inside our Bill Pay product to instantly book journal entries between all funds and ManCo simultaneously. 

Is this going to make a CFO love us? 

Maybe not. 

But it’s the painful problems that no other fund admin solves for you.

Last week, I spent 90 minutes with the VP of Finance at a $1B firm. What he said about our product surprised me... 

“I can’t believe you cared enough to do this.” 

I was explaining to Tim (no his name is not actually Tim) that we have a strict product principle at Hanover Park:

“Everything you see must be exportable to Excel.”

Too many products for finance people try show fancy UIs. But everyone in finance wants the flexibility to take your UI and export it to Excel. 

So every screen inside our app is exportable.

But we didn’t stop there. As an ex-investment banker, I always hated when Excel sheets were hardcoded. How do you trace the work without formulas?

So we made an insane effort to show every export to excel with formulas linked across tabs such as trial balance categories linked to the balance sheet categories.

The tiny details matter to me. And it shows our customers that we care.
