Presenting and producing programmes for Brentwood and Billericay's Community Radio Station, Phoenix FM.
  
The Orient Hour started out as Leyton Orient’s Official Club radio show, providing a weekly platform to discuss club news, before going independent. The show featured current and former members of staff as well as a number of pundits with connections to the club.  I was also an admin of both the Twitter and Facebook accounts for the show, promoting the activities of the club and the programme. The role also involved the editing of audio content and distribution on Mixcloud, iTunes and on the Phoenix FM website.

I also produced and presented Phoenix Sport – a show devoted to live score updates and local sports interviews, as well as playing a mixture of current and older chart music, as well as local bands.  

Midweek Matchzone was an in-depth sports programme presented in conjunction with snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan, where we discussed the sports issues of the day. 

I also produced a show for infamous sports agent and music manager Eric Hall, as well as producing and presenting current affairs and other sports content.

In recognition of my work with the station, including the production of a number of weekly web articles, I was made a Company Director in November 2017.

UX connections - can you help? 

I know many great UX students that are graduating this summer from the NUA. As you may know it’s extremely difficult to get that first foot in the door in the industry at the moment. 

Please share with me or Dave Watson any junior roles you know of that don’t require experience (you’d think this applies to all Junior roles but sadly it doesn’t).

Interaction Design
Product Design

Can you offer a (paid) internship in any of these areas? From 1 week to a few months. If so please get in touch.

Last week was the calm before the storm, but next week is packed with businesses looking to either start their experimentation journey, or find the support to expand and mature their programmes, also investigating things like personalisation and social proof.

However, I do have some availability at the end of the week or the week after.

What are you trying to say LinkedIn?

This is not the kind of vibe I need in the last working hour on a Friday 😂 

I always love seeing the latest insights from Baymard Institute, investigating areas I'd never previously thought about.

One of their recent pieces is on complex filtering on B2B electronics sites, which I think applies well to any site with lots of in-depth filter options.

For electronic parts, you can be looking at more than 20 options in a filter for things like voltage and capacitance.

Asking users to scroll through all these options, especially if they aren't ordered in a particularly logical way, is going to cause frustration and abandonment.

The solution is to test adding search functionality to each filter to speed up the process.  It's really surprising that 46% of the sites in this Baymard benchmark don't provide this functionality.
