I spent my nights earning a Master’s degree, determined to make an impact in the automotive industry. But reality hit fast. Though I was hired for my "out-of-the-box" thinking, every time I spoke up, I heard the same message: Get back in the box. My bosses were brilliant engineers, but they had been promoted into leadership without the skills to lead a diverse team. They focused on technical excellence, not on empowering their people. The tipping point came in 2005. Our team was tasked with developing a plan to match Toyota's quality numbers. I asked, Why aren’t we aiming to exceed them? My boss shook his head. "You're so idealistic." That moment changed everything. I left a few months later to join a boutique management consulting firm, where my job was finally aligned with what I cared about—helping teams succeed, improving the client experience, and delivering real results. In 2008, I founded Leader In Motion™ with one mission: to build a strong, diverse bench of leaders who are ready to step up at any moment.
