Working at small businesses has afforded me the opportunity to choose my own adventures. When a business need is identified, you take responsibility for whatever that is, learn all you can about it, and address it. Working this way is exciting, terrifying, and ultimately my preference. There's always more to do, learn, and ways in which to grow. Test Double's mission is to improve the way the world builds software. We do this with an amazing group of folks who are a bit unique. Test Double employees aren’t productive because we’re happy. We’re happy because we’re productive. My goal is to foster a culture of psychological safety, professional growth, and connection so that people of all backgrounds and identity markers want to work here and want to work with each other. I champion this goal as part of the executive leadership team through a combination of strategic people success and human resources work as well as EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) facilitation. Because I’ll use any forum to give a shout out for this - The Centre for Global Inclusion has created the methodology Test Double utilizes for improving EDI practices. The Centre for Global Inclusion, https://centreforglobalinclusion.org/, is a nonprofit, public charity created and powered by more than 100 equity, diversity, and inclusion experts. As a small business where internal roles require many generalist skills, leaning on the GDEIB for their expertise and best practices has enabled Test Double to move farther, faster on the continuous journey that is equity, diversity, and inclusion.
