Can talking with an AI-generated version of myself lead to a deeper awareness of how I think? That's what I wanted to find out as I continue to explore the latest AI technologies in hands-on ways. 

Alphabet (GOOGL) results are in for Q1 2024, Google Cloud brought in $9.57 billion.

Google Cloud continues to grow at a rapid pace, increasing revenue by ~28% YoY. Google Cloud continues to be profitable. Google Cloud’s Q1 2024 revenue of $9.57 billion represents ~12% of Alphabet’s total revenue of $80.53 billion.

Google Cloud sees surging AI momentum, solidifying its position as the leading AI cloud services provider.

Spotify dropped a new AI feature that makes it crazy easy to generate a 30-song custom playlist in just a few seconds.

This is a new way of listening, and Spotify is letting users give a text prompt for a whole playlist.

Examples:
- I want to feel like a space explorer with Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar.
- I need a nature-themed playlist for a road trip from NYC to New Hampshire.
- Give me high energy getting ready music for my wedding in Lake Como.

The feature works best with prompts that include genres, moods, artists, or decades. You can even reference places, animals, activities, movie characters, and emojis.

It’s currently in beta for UK and Aussie Premium users. No ETA for the US or other countries (collective sigh).

This is a major upgrade from Spotify Daylist, which creates playlists based on your listening history but doesn’t offer much customization (ex: “spicy millennial Thursday evening”), and its predecessor AI DJ.

Tool use is now available in beta to all customers in the Anthropic Messages API, enabling Claude to interact with external tools using structured outputs.

If instructed, Claude can enable agentic retrieval of documents from your internal knowledge base and APIs, complete tasks requiring real-time data or complex computations, and orchestrate Claude subagents for granular requests.

Younger generations — Gen Z and millennials — anticipate more substantial effects from AI compared with older generations like Gen X and baby boomers. 

Specifically, 66% of Gen Z compared with 46% of boomer respondents believe AI will significantly affect their current jobs. 

Meanwhile, individuals with higher incomes, more education, and decision-making roles foresee AI having a great impact on their employment.”

Presenting the 2024 AI Index

Most organizations today have some official statement of their #VISION. Yet in most cases, these vision statements fail to deliver any real benefit…

A shared vision for digital transformation has to have two qualities to be effective.

1) UNIQUE

Any vision needs to be unique to your organization.

So many companies embark on a digital transformation saying things like… 

"We want to be a digital-first company.”
“We want to future-proof ourselves.”
“We want to be a digital leader in our industry."

These buzzwords could be said by any company, of any size, in any industry, or in any part of the world. 

They’re completely generic.

For transformation to succeed…

You must start with a future view of where your PARTICULAR world is going.

*Your customers.
*Your industry.
*Your particular organization.

And, when you see that future, you must then answer:

What is the role you are going to play in that digital future? 
And why YOU, out of all businesses?

2) SHARED

In addition, any vision for transformation needs to be shared by everyone in the company.

Too often, when I ask different managers in the same company, "What does digital transformation mean for your business?"

…I will receive different answers from each person.

A shared vision CANNOT just be cooked up by a few people at the top of the organization.

It has to be understood by everyone at every level of the organization. 

Your vision must be something everyone has in mind as they do their work, and make decisions between competing demands, every day.

Why does a “shared vision” matter to digital transformation? 

In my new book “The Digital Transformation Roadmap,” I argue that the first step of any successful transformation is to define a shared vision—of where you are going, why you must go there, and why your organization is uniquely suited to pursue this future path.

The absence of this kind of vision is the first of five barriers my research has identified as the root causes of digital transformation (DX) failure.

==Why does a Shared Vision matter?

The benefits of having a shared vision for digital transformation are manifold.

◾ A shared vision can #inspire and #align the work of employees at all levels of the business. 

◾ It sets #expectations, with a clear understanding of what success should look like in 12, 24, or 36 months—and what metrics to use to track progress.

◾ A shared vision will also guide #resource #allocation, directing investment towards digital initiatives where the company has a clear 'right to win'.

◾ For public companies, a well-articulated vision allows #investors to make informed decisions about supporting a company's digital transformation journey.

Without a shared vision, it becomes nearly impossible to align the organization and set clear expectations. This can result in confusion, resistance to change, and suboptimal decision-making.

Without a shared vision, a digital transformation initiative is certain to falter.
