My story is one of curiosity, passion for tech and a belief in doing business with a purpose beyond making money. My journey in tech began in my childhood, fueled by an early fascination with computers. This wasn't just a fleeting interest; it became the cornerstone of my career. I hustled through various jobs as a kid to buy my first computer, setting me on a path I'd never anticipated.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿

I started in IT around the Y2K scare. Despite studying biochemistry in college, I found myself gravitating to IT labs more than chemistry ones.

Working as an external contractor at Interbrew (later part of AB-InBev) was where I evolved significantly. I first made a knowledge platform go global, followed by heavy involvement in Infrastructure & application outsourcing projects and a Business Shared Services transformation. This experience was eye-opening & showed me the impact of global collaboration and the power of technology to bring people together.

I was asked in 2011 to startup delaware's IT Services in Southeast Asia, a whole new challenge — moved from Belgium to Singapore, adapting to a new business environment & understanding diverse cultural dynamics. Despite early successes, it was clear success here required more than just business acumen; it demanded sensitivity to cultural nuances and adaptability.

𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗲𝘄

After years of growth and learning, with delaware stable and rapidly growing, I found I was ready for a new challenge. I stepped away from delaware, wishing them well, and started something new. 

In my new venture, through off-shored IT Services, we create life-changing opportunities for people in Vietnam. It's about more than profit; it's about impact. Business can a be a force for good, providing value to shareholders AND society at large.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱

The biggest lessons? The importance of people, aligning with those who understand your way of thinking, and the transformative power of saying "yes" after learning from a series of "no's." Resilience, openness, and a commitment to making a difference have been my guiding principles.

My journey has taught me that success isn't just about what you achieve but about the impact you make along the way and the people you engage with. 

As I move forward, I'm excited to see where these lessons will take me next and above all, I want to pay it forward!

Harjit and I had the most enjoyable evening with Yvonne, Calin, Philip and Leonard from SAP Singapore,  celebrating recent successes and plotting to conquer the world - or Singapore/SEA PLT, at the very least 🙃

Two areas in SAP security deserve much more attention than they usually get.

The first is continuous monitoring and logging. Without it, identifying suspicious behavior becomes far more difficult. That delay creates risk, because by the time something unusual is detected, the damage may already be done. Monitoring effectively is a challenge, but it is essential if we want to respond in time.

The second is custom code. Over the years, many organizations have built large amounts of custom development and interfaces into their SAP landscapes. Some of that code is excellent, but much of it is average or poorly written. The problem is that it is often not tested against vulnerabilities. When insecure code makes its way into production, it can give external actors exactly the opportunity they need to exploit errors and compromise the system.

This is why application-level security cannot be treated as an afterthought. Even with strong defenses in place, weak monitoring and insecure custom code can undermine everything else. From my perspective, these remain two of the biggest risks organizations face today.

In our recent webinar, Onno Coenen from SecurityBridge shared a concrete example of how threats can unfold in SAP environments.

It is not always an external hacker breaking into your network. With thousands of employees already inside the system, threats can just as easily come from phishing, stolen credentials, bribed insiders, or even staff with bad intentions. Once the network layer is breached, SAP applications become an easy target.

From there, attackers may download massive volumes of highly sensitive or privacy-protected data. The consequences go beyond IT. Such breaches can trigger regulatory issues and quickly escalate into a reputational risk at the board level.

The problem is that most organizations are unable to see this happening in time. If someone is extracting data directly from an SAP table, it often goes unnoticed until the damage is done. This is why real-time threat detection is not optional. It is the only way to catch such activity before it becomes a business crisis.

Innovation sounds exciting, until it means disrupting your own success. The truth? Most teams aren’t afraid of failure. They’re afraid of letting go of what’s already working.

But what got you here won’t get you there. Comfort zones feel safe, but they’re the fastest way to get left behind.

Real innovation means betting on what’s next. Even when it means breaking what feels safe. Especially then.

During our recent webinar, I highlighted one of the biggest challenges in SAP security: expertise. SAP landscapes are complex, and while teams already manage operations, patching, and application support, it is not easy to find people who understand all dimensions of security at the right level and at the right time. Covering everything is rarely straightforward.

That is why automation and tooling are so important. They help us prepare systems against known threats, but just as critical is being able to detect abnormal behavior in real time.

As Onno Coenen from SecurityBridge explained, it helps to think of this like protecting a building. Strong locks on your doors and windows, similar to patching and vulnerability management, are essential. But without cameras to monitor what happens in real time, you remain blind to suspicious activity.

This is exactly the case with many SAP environments today. While organizations have SOC teams monitoring networks, firewalls, and endpoints, SAP applications often remain a blind spot. And given the central role SAP plays, that blind spot carries real risk. Real-time threat detection closes that gap, bringing SAP security into the same view as the rest of the cybersecurity landscape.

In this episode, Onno Coenen, Managing Director APAC at SecurityBridge, explains why configuration in SAP systems is one of the most overlooked but critical areas of security.

He points out that organizations often run a wide variety of SAP system types, from S4 and ECC to cloud connectors and business applications. Each of these comes with its own set of security notes, potential misconfigurations, and relevant patches. Keeping track of all of them manually is nearly impossible. Without the right tooling, teams struggle to know which security notes are missing, where default passwords might still exist, or how to consistently check security settings across different environments.

Onno highlights that this is not just a technical issue. Misconfigurations and missing patches directly affect compliance. Whether an organization needs to meet SOX, audit requirements, or other regulatory frameworks, they must be able to prove their SAP landscape is secure and compliant with solid evidence.

He shares that basis teams in particular face an enormous manual burden trying to identify and fix these issues. Many of these challenges can be solved much more effectively with proper tooling that automates detection, eliminates default passwords, and simplifies continuous monitoring.

This discussion reinforces that configuration and patch management are not optional housekeeping. They are foundational to SAP security, compliance, and resilience.

Operational efficiency isn’t about buying the latest tools, it’s about making technology work for people. I’ve spent two decades bridging this gap, helping organizations move from expensive systems that underperform to strategies that deliver measurable impact. The key is aligning people, data, and design for change.
