My first software gig took 13 years. It should have taken half that, but learning things the hard way takes time. We worked tirelessly to turn everything into a discipline except for one seemingly small thing. Pricing. This oversight cost us critical deals, slowed our growth and created unnecessary friction. The fateful day I met the team at Software Pricing Partners (SPP), I began to get a sense for the art and science of software monetization. I was utterly compelled, forever transforming my perspective on what it really means to run a profitable and successful software company. Today I consider myself extremely fortunate to be Managing Director at SPP, as it allows me to meet the most talented and passionate leaders of today's emerging, high growth & enterprise software companies. It’s a joy to help these leaders maximize valuations, revenues and profitability – but it doesn’t happen with PowerPoint slides, Excel spreadsheets or irrelevant surveys. We’re only able to do it by using a proven process that helps them successfully roll out advanced monetization strategies, and continually monitor their effectiveness. I’ve come to learn that getting paid fairly for the value you deliver requires a carefully crafted strategy and approach, alongside an easy story that salespeople and prospects can understand and get behind. If you fail on either of those fronts, market progress can become a friction-filled nightmare. But if you succeed on both fronts, you'll realize that the intersection of pricing and selling is the critical lynchpin to your success.
