Addressing the challenges associated with delay-tolerant networking (DTN) in complex satellite networks. The delivery of high volumes of data from spacecraft in a timely manner is key to obtaining useful insights about our planet. Effective DTN routing enables this.

Research Fellow

Design and development of the "Nanobed" Missions Laboratory - a Nano-satellite development facility for the rapid realisation of novel mission concepts. The facility links real space hardware with a software-driven simulation environment for operational testing and validation of all mission scenarios.

My responsibilities include development of the hardware and software elements to enable full end-to-end testing of nano-satellite technologies for both industry and academia.

Research Associate

My research aims to outline a framework that enables quantification of the value to be had from inter-satellite networking. Potential applications include rapid response Earth observation, low cost machine-to-machine messaging and high security point-to-point communications.

Design engineering of innovative space science instrumentation and extensive report writing. Projects include:
    - The `Life Marker Chip' bio-chemistry experiment on-board the ExoMars Martian Rover, designed to detect past and present signs of life using immuno-assay antibody technology.
    - Miniature Release Mechanisms, using in-house designed (and patented) actuation system to directly release a satellite payload.
    - Mechanical design for the BepiColombo satellite `Remote Interface Unit'. Novel electronics box design resulting in significant mass reduction and setting a new standard for future RIUs.
    - Mechanical analysis of the MIXS instrument (X-Ray telescope) on-board BepiColombo Satellite. Structural and Thermo-structural Finite Element Analysis.
