English with Claire

I help students improve their English from wherever they are in the world. In my lessons, we focus on gaining confidence using the English language by reviewing typical situations and incorporating real-word English through social media posts, movies, news articles and more.

My students are between 10 and 60 years old and their levels range from A2 to C2. My students have the choice of General English, conversational and exam preparation classes and although I have a selection of coursebooks, some of my students have purchased their own for us to work from. 

Through English with Claire, I am also a freelance content writer. This allows me to continue my passion for writing and has led to editing, proofreading and ghostwriting roles. I have written about gardening, house plants, property, home safety and English language teaching, to name a few.

As a member of the SEO team at AZoNetwork, my role was to write informative content for companies in the STEM industries. During my time there, I wrote over 600 blog posts, landing pages, and various other forms of content.

For up to 20 hours per week, I taught B1 and C1 classes using the English File course books. I also helped cover when needed and provided some social media tips. I thoroughly enjoyed my role here.

English Language Teacher

BEET Language Centre

I taught ages 16+, from Elementary to Upper-Intermediate level. I was provided with textbooks and supporting materials from the school but planned my own lessons, which lasted 90 minutes each. I also taught one 90 minute class per day from Monday to Thursday, based on one of the four skills: reading, writing, listening or speaking. 

Each April I taught a 2-week BEC Preliminary course for a group of 20 students who joined us from Switzerland. The first two weeks were a big challenge for me, as everything was new, but I became more knowledgeable about the course style, the exams and thoroughly enjoyed teaching the groups over the years. 

I also continued to support the Marketing managers by running the school’s Instagram page - keeping students up to date with activities, promotions and study tips!

English Language Teacher and Social Media Assistant

I worked 22 hours a week teaching a multilingual Elementary class and an Upper-Intermediate Speaking elective class. This role included submitting lesson plans, records of work and marking homework. I was also part of the transition to online teaching, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Working up to 25 hours per week I taught a range of General English classes and also acted as a cover teacher when needed. This role required me to submit lesson plans, provide and mark homework and prepare and mark weekly tests.

Sheffield Hallam University

After completing an SKE English course, where I was able to enhance my curriculum knowledge and develop my ideas for teaching English (poetry, essays, drama and more), I started a PGCE in English.

My assignment title was: How can we teach poetry for enjoyment and understanding as well as for passing exams.

Working up to 25 hours per week I taught a range of English classes from beginner General English to FCE skills. This job also required me to submit lesson plans, provide and mark homework and prepare and mark weekly tests.

Angloschool is a Cambridge Exam Centre in Warsaw. I taught 21 lessons per week to a range of ages (6 to 65) at all levels of English. Aside from General English I also taught Young Learners Exam classes, PET, KET, FCE and CAE preparation classes.

I taught General English and GEPT preparation courses for students ages 6-18 at a cram school. The owner has over 30 years experience teaching and developing materials in Taiwan so, as teachers, we had a fantastic support system.

I worked 17.5 hours a week, Monday to Saturday, and followed a curriculum that enables students to develop all areas of their English language skills. I most enjoyed seeing students gaining confidence and presenting their own ideas, where they were previously too shy.

Hey! I'm Claire 👋🏻 I run English with Claire where I write content for small businesses and teach English online.

I teach General English and exam preparation courses online (C1 Advanced / CAE, BEC, FCE, PET, and KET), and write for small businesses all over the world. 

What do I write about? I can write about pretty much anything. I know how to research a subject thoroughly, identify keywords for SEO, and adapt my writing to meet the target audience's needs. However, I don't write about legal or finance - leave that to the top dogs!
