London-based women's health and wellness company Unfabled has raised $1.7 million in seed funding from Arāya Ventures and other investors, bringing its total funding to $3.9 million. Since its last funding round, Unfabled's revenues have multiplied more than 10X. The fresh capital coincides with Unfabled's expansion from 50 to 737 Boots stores across the United Kingdom, where six products from its Essentials range are now available. Founder Hannah Samano says women's health products are often "missing from shelves or sidelined altogether, treated as niche," and the Boots partnership allows the brand to "put women's health center stage on the high street."

Unfabled Raises $1.7M Seed Funding Round And Scales Boots Partnership

I really enjoyed speaking with Hanni founder Leslie Tessler about her journey so far, including the brand’s pivot, success and her vision for its future, especially at SEPHORA. She’s smart, funny and a straight shooter.

My favorite stories to write (besides those  about highly stigmatized categories 😌) are those where a founder is willing to share frankly about their journey, what they’ve learned and how they applied those learnings. In Hanni’s case, the brand’s success speaks for itself!

Though Leslie launched Hanni as a shaving-focused brand, she wasn’t too precious about that original concept. When consumers made it clear that what they wanted was more innovative and unfussy body care, she pivoted. She also learned how some of the capital from the brand’s previous raise was not allocated most effectively.

That pivot meant Hanni’s production process was much less capital-intensive, which allows Leslie to do more with this most recent raise, led by Melitas Ventures.

Body care continues to be a hot category for consumers—and investors. It was consumer interest that prompted Hanni founder Leslie Tessler to pivot her brand, originally launched with a focus on shaving, to a body care focus. Now, in a round led by Melitas Ventures, Hanni has raised $2 million to build its business at Sephora. The brand goes beyond elevated body butters. Its unique offerings include a dry shaving stick and deeply nourishing body mask designed to be rinsed off as the final shower step. Melitas Ventures founder Alex Malamatinas asserts that Hanni is a prime example of the body category being at the "early stages of a new innovation cycle." He says, "There has been a lot of focus on the face, but, increasingly, consumers are caring more about the body."
