Island Women in Science & Technology (iWIST)

Founded in 2011 as Island Women in Technology, the group’s initial mission was to offer a positive and supportive environment where women who worked in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) could connect and build a community. A common concern from members of the group was that they felt like the “other” at work. The goal was to counter that and help women flourish and grow their networks, careers and personal skills.In 2016 the decision was made by an ad hoc committee to change the name to include science since so many members were active in research, academic and corporate science roles. Today there are over 400 women who subscribe to the iWIST event invitation email newsletter. iWIST hosts networking and professional development events six times a year.

The People and Workplace Strategies Branch supports the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment with workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, leadership development and Indigenous Cultural Training.
	Built partnerships across all sector Ministries to develop and manage three core program components for the Leadership Cohort Program, cohort forums, team project challenges and executive job shadowing, all which have been launched on time and on budget
	Developed and launched the 2019/20 Supervisor’s Forum for the development of management skills across natural resources Ministries; successfully developed and delivered a webinar for Supervisor’s Forum on Failing Forward; Forums have had a 20% participation rate (~150 people) and an 80% satisfaction rating

	Planned and conducted requirements elicitation sessions with both the business and information management branch management members (over 120 sessions) and delivered 30 validated processes
	Defined/developed As-Is and To-Be (current and future state) user and system requirements, use cases/stories in Sparx Enterprise Architect
	Created BPMN process models in EA Sparx V.10, documented requirements and ensured adherence to government Systems Integration (SI) standards

•	Created a consistent Contract admin process identifying opportunities for service improvements and overall efficiency in 8 provincial regions for 18 staff – 9 hours of staff time saved per day 
•	17% improvement in the accuracy of the contract data system management (5300 work orders/ 35000 data points) – through data verification/ correction, data base design modification, reporting and staff training
•	Developed and coordinated a streamlined accruals process which improved accuracy, reduced the number of overdue payments by ~15% and ensured the timely submission of the monthly accruals report – (~ $11 million) - developed training materials for Contract Admin and Contract Managers 
•	Successfully acted for the Business Operations Manager, supervising 18 staff – fielded Contract Admin, Contract Manager and Senior Management enquiries, hired staff, addressed short term and long term disability claims, maintained a supportive environment and kept staff informed during a period of company wide cutbacks

John Hart Generation Station – VIG 
•	Facilitated a review of the Vancouver Island Generation group to assess compliance with Bronze level maintenance performance standards. Worked with crew leads and management team to address action items  for Bronze and prepare the team for impending launch of Silver 
•	Developed a backgrounder/ option paper for the Puntledge Decommissioning Project including site photos and scope package for Stage 1 Environmental Assessment in order to solicit expressions of interest.  Reviewed proposals and awarded contract work for Stage 1 and 2 Environmental assessments and preliminary engineering work for the Puntledge decommissioning project which is currently underway
•	Prepared the work order packages for all 6 major generation station outages for Fiscal 12 for the maintenance planning manager 2 weeks ahead of schedule
