I haven’t posted in a month—That’s not like me.
But not much has been like me lately.
It was almost 6 years ago...

I remember the store manager at Target.
He looked about 10-15 years older than me, a big guy.

He looked puzzled when I asked him for a dolly to carry the 15 large boxes of things I had packed into my 4-door Wrangler... things I needed to return. 

I asked if he minded helping me load the dolly;
I just didn't have the physical strength.

Because I hadn't slept in 9 days.

I opened up the back of the Jeep, and he watched me load the first large box:

A stroller.

He held the spare tire panel open for me.

...then a co-sleeper bassinet.

He asked if I wanted to exchange anything.

...then a diaper changing table.

He said they had a better one in stock.

...then a car seat.

He started to describe it.

...then a crib.

He immediately stopped talking.

Silence.

It finally hit him.

He didn't hesitate.

He grabbed me, wrapped me in a hug and apologized.

That moment, I immediately woke up in my own body, my own brain, for the first time in a week.

I collapsed onto the pavement, screaming uncontrollably, for what seemed like an eternity.

He wouldn't let go of me.
He told others watching it was ok.

It was ugly. 
It was loud.

It was visceral.

A short time ago, I went to the Van Gogh immersive experience.

I collected my VIP badge, my free poster, and I sat in that massive, echoing room, surrounded by light and music and the story of a man whose life never loved him back.

And I sobbed.

My daughter was born having never taken a single breath.

Van Gogh wasn’t just painting flowers.

I've never said anything about any of this because I didn’t know how to say it without sounding like a victim.

And I’ve spent most of my life trying not to be one.

I don't say this to defend my absence, because I don't have to—but rather to tell you this:

Take care of yourself.

None of this matters.

Listen—there’s always going to be another grift in marketing.

And the next big one is a doozy.

That’s what this whole “frequency” pitch is.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: Start with truths everyone agrees on.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: Layer in something unverifiable.
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: Monetize the invisible thing.

Yes—CMO churn is real.
Copycat marketing is rampant.
Metrics are worshipped because boards demand numbers.

Those are legitimate systemic problems.

But then comes the bait-and-switch.
Instead of dealing with incentives, governance, or economics…

we’re told the 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 issue is “low frequency.”

Did you hear... what I just said?

The solution to your company’s problems is apparently… “frequency.”

You know.
A vibe.
An aura.

Something you can’t measure, fix, or hold anyone accountable for.

And lucky you— the only way to “raise frequency” is to buy from the guy who invented the framework.

You can eat every part of my ass, you absolute fraud.

This is no different than:
• The diet guru who tells you sugar is bad… then sells you crystals to “balance your metabolism.”

• The crypto bro who points out banks are predatory… then tells you salvation lies in his JPEG ape.

• The ex-agency owner who acknowledges burnout is real… then insists the cure is “vibrating higher” after an ayahuasca bender at Burning Man.

It’s the same move every time: smuggle nonsense inside truth.

Companies don’t need “high frequency.”
You want to know why?

Because that’s fucking stupid
It literally means nothing.
It’s nonsense.

You can eat every part of my ass, you absolute fraud.

The future doesn’t belong to “high-frequency companies.”

The future belongs to companies that stop falling for this bullshit.

You know, I'm actually curious.
Who else saw this coming a mile away?

Seriously, it was obviously going to be some nonsense grift. That was going to be the next move right?


Damn... Feels good to be back.

I hate the very concept of producing a "Minimum Viable Product" with every fiber of my being—and you should too.

Because when a company builds an MVP, they force marketing to do something unnatural: 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱.

And once you’ve done that long enough, you forget what 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 even means.

Marketing starts treating everything—campaigns, launches, even brands—like experiments instead of commitments.

And it’s poisoning the entire well.

𝗠𝗩𝗣 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀

When your product barely works, every campaign becomes an act of damage control.

Marketers end up rationalizing the absence of value instead of amplifying it.

We stop telling stories and start writing excuses.

𝗠𝗩𝗣 𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

You can’t build a legendary brand around placeholders.
You can’t storytell a 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦.

There’s no mythos in a product that hasn’t earned belief.

The language of the MVP era is hedged, performative, transactional—the opposite of conviction.

Brand dies where certainty ends.

𝗠𝗩𝗣 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗽𝘀

We’ve become addicted to testing. We don’t commit to creative direction until we have “data.”

But data doesn’t guide vision—it documents hesitation.

You can’t learn anything meaningful about your market if you’re testing a half-born thing.

Every “signal” is noise. Every failure gets misdiagnosed as “we haven’t iterated enough” instead of “we shipped too soon.”

That’s how marketers end up promoting a product that never should have existed in the first place.

And when that happens... Dust off the résumé.

Last month I posted about building marketers an AI agent for asymmetric information warfare. The comments went insane.

People called it terrifying, game-changing, and half of you asked when I was going to sell it.

Here's the truth: 𝗜 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲.

A client hired me to deploy the same system in a field where compliance, authority, and trust are non-negotiable.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁:

I needed to challenge myself.

Not with more work, or more output, but with something that demanded precision, patience, and a steady hand.

It’s the kind that doesn’t come from rest, but from reassembly.

It’s about learning to take care of something again—with intention, with patience, with pride.

Every screw, every wire, every carefully routed cable—it forced me to slow down and confront the part of myself that never does.

To create something stable, beautiful, and powerful… and then trust myself to turn it on.

There’s a very specific moment when go from “Oh shit, please don’t explode” right before you hit the power button… to that sigh of relief that I just can’t explain.

The budget was signed off, the strategy was airtight, and the stakeholders were aligned for once. It felt like momentum, like inevitability. 

It began the way all the best campaigns do... with the rush of possibility.

I told myself this was the one.
This would be the campaign that proved it.

We get caught up in the excitement of planning a lot as marketers. Where process becomes its own kind of intimacy.

Late nights spent tinkering with copy variations, endless rounds of refinement, heated debates about channels and spend.

Every detail felt like it mattered, every small breakthrough felt like progress. And somewhere along the way, I stopped treating it like a campaign and started treating it like a promise... one I believed in with everything I had.

When launch day came, I convinced myself we were still ready. We had put in too much to back out.

So we pushed it live.

The numbers started coming in, and they were brutal. Nothing was landing. Leadership began to lose faith. Trust eroded. Budgets shrank. I threw myself into optimization, tweaking headlines, shifting spend, chasing every lever I could pull.

I worked harder, longer, convinced there was still a chance to salvage it. But the foundation was already broken, and deep down I knew it.

Eventually, we shut it down.

...But I didn’t move on. 

No announcements.
No postmortem.
Quietly. 

It was just a campaign that faded out of existence while the world moved on. Because that was the only campaign I had ever wanted to work on.

I couldn’t stop staring at what we told ourselves was going to win it all, wondering how something I had poured so much of myself into could fail so completely. 

How something that once felt inevitable could dissolve into nothing at all to everybody else on the team.

...But I didn’t move on. 

I really tried.
I couldn't do it.
Throw money at it.
Put it on more channels.
This copy won't work, rewrite it.
I know if we just find the right words...
Just listen to me, this is going to work.
Every marketer in my family failed this campaign.
This isn't going to happen to me too.
Is anybody even listening to me?
I'm not fucking failing!
Did you hear me?
I don't give up.
I don't lose.
Ever.

...And I didn’t move on. 

Not every campaign succeeds.
Not every story ends the way you thought it would.

In marketing, we’re taught to bury those failures, to spin them or hide them away, because failure is treated like shame.

But maybe the real lesson isn’t in how you salvage something that’s already broken. Maybe the real lesson is in knowing when to stop carrying it. Because the measure of a marketer isn’t how they celebrate their wins.

...It’s how they survive their losses.
