The biggest way to sabotage yourself is to overcomplicate things. Both my Cloud and physical transformation routines are very simple.

I am a late bloomer. I set foot in the gym at 35. Some’d say I started AFTER the statistical age of male peak. The only reason I was able to transform myself was that my routine was simple to follow and track.   

I didn’t stand on the bosu ball on one leg, balancing a dumbbell on my head. Instead, I have been following a push-pull-leg routine for years. Mostly free weights, simple proven exercises, nothing gimmicky. Started with 3 days/week. Once I saw success, I gradually increased it to 6 days/week.

The same principle applied to Cloud.

I didn’t try to learn everything at once. I picked a clear path, focused on fundamentals, practiced consistently, and built depth before chasing novelty.

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or learn Cloud or AI - pick a path that is simple to execute, then build upon it.

Simplicity and consistency beat motivation.

Candidates often confuse between API Gateway Private API vs Private Integration.

Private API is the invocation side i.e. this API can only be invoked from within this VPC or other peered VPC or on-prem connected to this VPC if allowed by the network rules. Whereas Private Integration is on the API backend side, i.e., traffic flows from the API to the "integrated" backend without going over the internet.

Private API is achieved through VPC endpoints, whereas Private integration is achieved via VPC Links.

Previously, REST API private integration needed to terminate at a NLB inside VPC. But if your app is exposed via private ALB, then you needed this NLB to talk to the ALB

This added extra cost, latency and complexity!

In Dec 2025, AWS announced that REST API Private Integration supports direct ALB integration without the NLB. This eliminates the extra NLB inbetween

The HTTP API Private Integration can reach either an ALB or an NLB for a long time. But REST API has more features. Perhaps I will go over them in another post!

Very humbled to be invited back to Rutgers University to give a lecture on the impact of Cloud and GenAI on early-career jobs. Everyone had the same question: “Is Gen AI going to make freshers obsolete?”

I gave the advice I wish I’d had on day one:

Don’t wait for permission to study something - You may say, “I will learn X when I am going for my Master's”, but you don’t need an internship, a manager, or a syllabus to build real skills. Curiosity + self-driven projects will teach you more than most people realize.

Proof of work - The market is ultra-competitive. Pandemic time demand-heavy market has swung towards supply-heavy. Just having a resume is not enough anymore. Show proof of your work, such as projects, certifications, and sample code snippets, on LinkedIn. You don’t have to like the game. You just have to learn how to win it.

The job market moves faster than curriculum - What’s “hot” when you start college may not be relevant when you graduate. Pay attention to trends early, and align your learning accordingly. You don’t have to be an expert on the new topics, but you should have some understanding of them.

If even one student leaves campus with a clearer signal than I had back then, it’s worth it. Grateful to be back.

How do high-scale sporting events like Super Bowl, Olympics, Soccer finals, and Cricket matches get streamed to millions of viewers? Here's how:

- Live cameras in the stadium capture the action

- AWS Elemental MediaLive takes the raw video input from the cameras into AWS, and encodes it in real-time, compressing the content into smaller, high-quality streams suitable for broadcast and internet delivery. MediaLive also translates the streams into different languages!

- MediaPackage takes the video input and packages it into multiple streaming formats, enabling content delivery to a wide range of playback devices such as connected TVs, mobile phones, computers, tablets, and game consoles

- These various streaming format output is fed to CloudFront. Different devices consume the stream from this CloudFront. You can enable AuthN/Z with CloudFront from the streaming app.

- Elemental MediaPackage can also save the video in S3 bucket for VOD

- All these services can scale automatically to support millions of viewers worldwide!

Kinda sad my team (GO EAGLES!!) is knocked out, but that means I can watch today's big game with no stress and mostly chat with friends. May the best team win!

Today's GitHub and Copilot outage proves one thing - you need to treat the AI systems like any distributed application i.e. be prepared for failure anytime.

My developer at my startup uses copilot extensively. He is shocked at today's outage. As a Agentic Disaster Recovery scenario, we purchased API Key directly from Claude and get the work going.

If you are relying on one single agentic tool, time to rethink a backup in case this happens. Ohh, and for GitHub outage, we are sending files over slack for now 🤣
