I’m a blue-collar woman wrapped in a PhD package. I've weathered the challenges of two family-owned construction businesses – sheet metal (parents) and industrial roofing (husband). I’m determined to improve the workplace environment, and decrease turnover, for the business owner and the employee within the construction industry. For 20+ years, I’ve successfully partnered with organizations internationally in the transformation of their workplace environment by leveraging tactics that include: leadership, management, communication, ownership transitions, health behavior policies, equity, inclusion, social determinates of health and cross-collaboration. I am often mistaken for Human Resources (HR); however, I am not. I am an Organizational Health Consultant who believes the workplace environment cannot change without an experienced leader at the table who understands systems, behavior change and the importance of interdepartmental collaboration. Because thriving, healthy workplace cultures aren't built by HR, they are built by a business' commitment. Key action items that inform the creation of a customized program specific to your company: - Conversation with ownership to understand needs - Employee feedback sessions - Workplace observations Client results that have improved the quality of life for the owner and the employees: - Company A (regional construction law firm): Tested if allowing personal time during work hours effected productivity. The results showed an increase in the company’s profitability. - Company B (national construction): Led employee feedback sessions to understand why employees were not engaged in the workplace and quitting. Feedback was used to implement solutions that evolved into improved morale and increased productivity. Lower turnover was also a result because the employees were seen, heard and respected. - Company C (national manufacturing): Worked with the safety department observing office and job-site atmosphere with the intention of lowering the company’s experience modification rate (EMR). Long term results improved the employee work environment lowering workers compensation premiums. - Company D (international oil and gas): Increased access to cancer prevention screenings in a highly dispersed population. The results created a culture of care with long-term results believed to decrease lost time due to illness.
