As object architect was I amplified DAFCA's software competence — key to the long-term success of EDA systems. I have also designed and implemented major new modules in the product and regularly contributed to product evolution and robustness.

In this research position I worked with colleagues to pioneer the ideas of patterns and organizational patterns, and introduced the first use of pattern languages in the telecom industry. My research and organizational guidelines were foundations for Extreme Programming, the Agile movement, Scrum, and other key leading approaches of the decade. I also pioneered new design techniques that would become the foundation for Generative Programming.

Distinguished MTS / Principal Investigator-Researcher

In this position I was the first user of C++ outside Bell Labs Research and helped hone the development of the language. I developed and codified many of the first practices for effective design in C++, and provided much of the foundation for the design side of the C++ world. I also did much of the early exploration of how to apply work stations in a professional environment, and did pioneering work in version and configuration management.

I developed configuration management and software administration systems and software to support one of the largest software projects ever undertaken: the 5 ESS Switching System.
