As a remote worker, meetings are a big part of my day. And over time, a pattern keeps repeating:

Cash flow issues don’t automatically mean your business is failing.

Most times, they mean one part of the system is under strain and asking for attention.

This week I’m running a short poll to help founders pinpoint where cash is actually getting stuck.

What is currently your biggest 'Cash Flow' bottleneck?

Location is still one of the quiet deal breakers in remote work.

Even in a world that claims to be global.

Someone recently reached out to me on LinkedIn about a potential collaboration.

They had reviewed my profile.
They confirmed I had the experience.
They agreed I had the capability.

Everything was aligned until they realized I’m based in Kenya, not the United States.

That was the moment the conversation ended.

What stood out to me is this:
I already work with US-based teams. Successfully. Consistently.
Location only became an issue once it was named.

And the part that surprised me most?
My location isn’t hidden. A little due diligence would have made that clear from the start.

So it raises a real question:

Does location determine competence?
Or is it a barrier we keep holding onto because it feels familiar?

Talent is global.
Capability isn’t limited by borders.
Professionalism doesn’t come with a zip code.

We’re profitable, so things are okay.

I have heard this statement countless times from business owners. 

It sounds comforting, but it is dangerously misleading.

Because it is not profit that keeps your business alive, it is cash flow.

Here is a common scenario:
A company shows healthy profits on paper. 
Revenue looks strong, and expenses are under control. 
But most of their clients pay invoices 60 to 90 days late. 
Meanwhile, salaries, rent, and supplier bills are due every month.

On paper, they are profitable. In reality, payday arrives, and there is no cash in the bank.

At first, it feels like a temporary squeeze. But then:
Outstanding receivables pile up.
Suppliers demand payment.
The account balance keeps shrinking.
Profit does not matter if you cannot meet obligations.

If you are a business owner, do not fall into the “profit trap.”

Track your cash flow as closely as your profit. 

Salaries, suppliers, and rent do not wait for accounting numbers; they wait for cash.
