Currently providing care in Labor and Delivery, Post Partum, and NICU settings in a busy maternity care unit. My daily tasks include assessing triage patients who come into the unit for a variety of reasons (PIH/Pre-eclampsia work-ups, rule out labor, and various complications of pregnancy), caring for women in the labor and delivery process, administering magnesium sulfate, preparing women for induction of labor, administering pitocin, circulating in the OR for c-sections, performing the role of scrub nurse or first assist, and providing care in the post-op recovery period, participating on the birth response team to assess and, if need be, resuscitate the newborn, providing PPV/CPAP/ oxygen administration to newborns needing stabilization and caring for newborns admitted to the NICU. Additionally, my current responsibilities include providing care to mothers and infants in the postpartum period, including assisting with breastfeeding (working in partnership with CLCs), assisting with ADL's, performing assessments, and medication administration. Also, staff nurses are expected to assist social workers in the matching of patients with any support that may be needed (psychologically or socially) before discharge.
