Here's what you need to know about DALL-E and its potential role in warfare:

DALL-E is an artificial intelligence program designed to generate images from textual descriptions.

Now, Microsoft is pitching this technology to the US Military.

Texas is replacing humans with AI to mark exams.

Is this the future of education, or a recipe for disaster? 

Here are three things to know:

1. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is piloting the use of an AI-powered scoring system for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams.

2. The implementation of AI is expected to significantly reduce the number of human graders required - from 6,000 to around 2,000, saving an estimated $15–20M per year.

3. To ensure high-quality results, the AI system has been trained on 3,000 exam responses. But, complex answers, including those that contain slang, and a quarter of AI-graded results will still be re-scored by human graders.

Microsoft has reported Google to EU AI regulators.

The reason?

Google's competitive edge in AI, according to Microsoft.

In a recent report, Microsoft claimed Google has a unique advantage. 

They are the only ones in the AI space with complete independence at every layer. 

In contrast, everyone else must rely on partnerships to compete.

Microsoft further declared that Google is positioned to leverage their existing AI into leadership positions. 

New entrants, they argue, are not able to enjoy the same advantages.

Microsoft also dismissed concerns over monopolizing partnerships. 

They claim that partnerships prevent companies from becoming vertically integrated, resulting in an anti-competitive advantage.

Why should you care?

This highlights the ongoing rivalry between Google and Microsoft. 

It follows reports that OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, has signed two more content licensing agreements with publishers. 

This could potentially create unfair competition within the AI industry.

Keep an eye on this space.
