My thoughts on education are below (click "see more"), but first: I’d love to speak about YOUR ideas about education, or what you’ve built, or how you’re changing lives – particularly if you're interested in sharing your message on my podcast. Please reach out so we can connect! Great education creates better lives. I am passionate about fostering exceptional learning experiences by focusing educational research and theory into practice. Improving lives and creating success in diverse learners, in equitable and inclusive ways, is a mission that truly resonates for me. For six years I was effectively Riverdale Country School’s lead change agent, transforming teachers' educational practices and revolutionizing its Computer Science program. The transformation I accomplished in the CS program centered on creating relevant and engaging learning experiences for the students, and resulted in an 8x increase in enrollment over 5 years. Best of all, while the kids who would have taken CS still enrolled and thrived in the new program, the increase was from kids who would have never considered Computer Science in its more traditional form. After Riverdale I was an integral part of building and scaling the educational training and quality at ThriveDX and Flatiron School during their hyper-growth. I learned that I love building things from the ground up, leading organizations toward scalability, and strengthening culture in periods of fast growth and uncertainty. I’ve also learned that I relish debunking educational myths, particularly those that limit learning potential or actual performance. "Right-brained" and "left-brained" are unscientific characterizations of cognitive ability. "Visual learner" and "kinesthetic learner" are learning preferences, not requirements, and should never be the determining factor in how a topic is taught. Freeing learners from such cognitive limitations opens them to new and better ways of learning, so I include this way of thinking in my teacher training. So that takes us to 2022, when I realized I'd spent the last two decades refining my ability to quickly up-skill teachers. This is highly valuable, both for enterprises and schools, since there is so much need for internal knowledge and skill transfer as the pace of the world speeds up. So I decided to strike out on my own with EffectivEDU, where I level up teachers, trainers, and presenters and help them produce highly effective learning experiences. If I can be of service to you or your team, or if you’d just like to talk, please reach out!
