VolunteerInTown.com is a service provider volunteer recruiting tool and a town leadership communication/engagement tool for volunteers that live, study and work in town.

Volunteers (students, families, retirees) can pick and choose what volunteering opportunities speak to them and their skills, what they can bring to their town, get involved and make an impact.

Town leadership can use this to communicate and engage their towns people through available options or let them speak with what they see is needed.

Thesis: What if available volunteering hours was a currency? What would it buy? Who would be selling what? Who would be wealthy and how would they leverage that? 

Retirees could regain a sense of dignity, purpose, value. Students could find a sense of belonging and impact. Parents could find ways to instil the value of helping your neighbor and getting involved into their kids.

I like that. That's the kind of world I want to be a part of.

My vision is that VolunteerInTown.com will be the platform that brings together service providers, volunteers and town leadership to grow strong small towns all over the world. We're all in this together, so let's make it what we want it to be.

Porpoise has officially sunset and we are in the process of selling our assets to help cover our remaining debt. Thank you to all of our employees, clients, investors, believers and supporters. What an incredible journey this has been. Here's our SaaS (it's for sale!):

To employees, the Porpoise SaaS looks like an internal Instagram. They see all of the ways peers participate in programs and can like, comment, and get inspired to join in.

For the individuals that need to make these programs happen, it’s a full stack companion platform:

1. Setup the program with targets, teams and tasks.

2. Communicate with participants to onboard them and invite them to the launch event.

3. During the program they have a fun and familiar way to share what they are doing to participate.

4. As the program runs, real-time data appears in the form of social posts that participants create as they participate and get to view, like and comment on, generating engagement and motivation for others to contribute as well.

5. Reports can be generated at any time to see the overall progress. At the end are ready to be combined with favorite photos to assemble for a presentation to employees, the board or any other preferred way of sharing the impact with the world.

Having build and run Porpoise for about 8 years, we accumulated a lot of insight on how to help plan, manage and run employee engagement programs, and also how to help organizers articulate the importance and ROI value of these programs. We were able to also generate revenue by acting as consultants in this way, to which Porpoise was the perfect companion technology for the effort.

Our clients were banks, credit unions, government institutions and other professionals services. This meant that we had to provide features such as single sign-on, hardened security (pen tested) as well as rich data export feature and easy employee management features (such as creating teams and events with an easy way to communicate with them).

As VP engineering, my charge is growing and managing the tech team, putting in place the right tools, processes and trust to enable the dev team to build the core map technology, the supporting tech for it, and the system needed by sales and marketing to help let the world experience the power of Stay22.
