Key Accomplishments:
- Completed the sale and leaseback into JV of circ.£33m in a 3-month timescale resulting in initial cash receipt of £17m and profit of £2.7m in time for financial year end. JV structured specifically to maximise profit recognition and derecognition of assets.  

- Completion 2nd sale and leaseback of circ. £30m including uncompleted development in Scotland in line with strategic objective to exit the Scottish region. Initial cash receipt in excess of £12m. Deal completed just prior to initial national lockdown and included in half-year reported results.

- Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, management of the “plc accounts team”, delivery of Group consolidated monthly management accounts and management of annual audit and statutory accounts preparation

- Oversight and assist in the design and implementation of the financial controls framework for the Group

- Investigate and author several technical review papers on the impact of alternative proposals for the creation of joint association companies under IFRS 11 and 15. Also investigative work and subsequent position papers of accounting alternatives to maximise stakeholder returns.

Key Achievements: 
- Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts for three UK-based limited companies including a newly created holding company

- Preparation of consolidated statutory accounts (under FRS-102) and all supporting schedules to satisfy audit requirements for PE backed group. To be completed in line with timescales and agreed costs. 

- Review of banking facility agreement and resulting recommended hedging strategy reduced exposure to interest rate fluctuations resulting in annual savings of no less than £100k pa.

Brought on board to complete the Group statutory accounts and tax computations following the departure of several key members of the finance team. Responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts for nine group entities, including two foreign subsidiaries (US, UAE). 

Key Accomplishments: 
 
- Preparation of consolidated statutory accounts (under FRS-102) and all supporting schedules to satisfy audit requirements (ETB, note disclosure, cash flow etc.) 

- Completion of tax computations for KPMG and resolution of subsequent queries on group tax relief

- Authored technical review paper for the cost capitalisation of spend on new company product line which as approved by KPMG as part of the audit. Enabled the capitalisation of in excess of £1m of costs that would have been expensed otherwise.

Interim Statutory Accountant

Key Highlights: 

- Working with the Group Resources Director, preparation of consolidated financial plan and forecasts for the new merged organisation which reflected new development opportunities and expected savings to be achieved. Resulting in a balance sheet gain in excess of £150m for the combined group

- Played a supporting role to the Group Resources Director with the creation of detailed financial plan and supporting schedules which supported the financial position of the newly combined group in the establishment of the credit rating.  Responsible for the preparation of the historical background of Synergy Housing Group and presentation to Standard and Poor’s as part of the credit rating process. This resulted in an initial credit rating achieved at A+ (Stable). Fixed Rate 4.5% bond £200m in December 2013 with £50m held in reserve (issued the following year).

- Led on the successful restructure of the commercial and financial reporting teams and their consolidation from four locations to one. This included a full redesign of the structure so that it was both lean and scalable. Result: The Group finance team restructure successfully completed in 2014 (18 months post-merger of Aster / Synergy Housing Group). Overall headcount reduced by more than 20 with annual salary savings in excess of £700k. 

- Identification and implementation of consolidation software to streamline month end process and reduce month end reporting cycle by five working days. 

- Successful migration and full responsibility for the Group’s payroll function for over 1,300 employees from HR to Finance. This included the recruitment of a team to a new location and new process / procedure development. As a direct result of the changes made, employee satisfaction with the payroll service grew from 48% to 87% in a single year.

Synergy Housing Limited, Part of the Aster Group

Following the merger of Synergy Housing and the Aster Group, I was given the opportunity of Assistant Director of Finance in May 2012. 

In the first seven months following my appointment, I was actively involved with the preparation of the new Financial Plan spanning 35 years in preparation for gaining our Funders (RBS / Santander) approval for the merger to happen.  Working with the Group Resources Director, the work involved presentation to local Boards for approval and culminated with presentation to the funders that outlined the changes to the business as a result of the merger but also reflecting the tough economic climate that Registered Providers find themselves in today.  In November 2012, Synergy Housing officially joined the Aster Group.

Currently managing a team of 26 full and part time finance staff at the Synergy office in Poole including keeping them motivated during this time of transition to new management and eventual restructuring of the finance team.  

In the background, I managed the preparation of the Group budget and Financial Plan and subsequent approval by the Boards' Chairmen, Synergy Board and presentation to the Group's Funders (RBS, Santander and Barclays).  

As part of the team involved in overseeing the creation of the new finance structure, I'm taking the approach of stressing the culture change involved to bring the Group-wide finance team together, breaking down silos and moving toward a high performing team.  Something which I was successful doing with the team at Synergy.
