“I might have to go back to my 9-5”


This is what one of my copywriting clients said to me. 

They’d been freelancing for 18 months and were finding it tough.

↳ Inconsistent leads.
↳ Little confidence to do outreach.
↳ Low quality clients always wanting more for less. 

They started to feel like a fraud and compared themselves to everyone else on LinkedIn who seemed to be ‘smashing it’.

The inconsistent income became draining and took a toll on their emotions.

(and what you can learn from it)


Last month I had a client plan to start working with me 1:1

Last week they had to press pause. 

Nobody's fault, these things happen. 

It wasn’t ideal, but it was what it was.

So I choose to accept and not take it personally. 

Last year this probably wouldn’t have been the case. 

“What did I do wrong” 
“Why do they not value my work”
“Should I have said something different”

Thinking like this gets you nowhere quickly
aside from emotional turmoil of course. 

Only once you fully accept a situation can you choose the best path forward. 
Working from triggered emotion rarely helps. 

When you run your own business this is bound to happen.

No escaping it - par for the course.

What’s important is that you don’t freakout & melt down.

Stay objective and choose your next step wisely. 
(with calm, balance and intention)

Here’s a few things you can do to be better prepared for these situations:

- Build your network and stay visible (yes consistent content creation is important)

- Always be creating clients - Don’t stop when you’re full, waiting lists and deposits are a thing. 

- Maintain good relationships with past clients and reach out often. 
(People that have already paid you are more likely to pay you again)

- Don’t be afraid to follow up - fear of rejection keeps you stuck, stay front of mind. 

- Ask for referrals, if your client was happy with the work 9/10 they’re more than happy to refer you on. Sometimes you just need to ask!

- Ask for testimonials - other people will always sell your services better than you. 
(You’re too humble for your own good sometimes)

- Contribute monthly to an emergency fund - even if it’s just a bit each month, it soon mounts up.

(mine is currently at 3 months of rent / expenses increasing to 6 by EOY)


Remember, you have control over the amount of money you make.

Don’t let those limiting beliefs tell you otherwise. 

P.S. How do you bounce back when a potential client's plans change? 

Do you meet it with a growth mindset or self doubt?

You need to share social proof (consistently).

If you don’t, inbound enquiries won’t come.

People need to trust that you can get the results you’re claiming. 

If not, they won’t buy from you --> inconsistent sales.

The answer?

Sharing social proof in a compelling way. 

But you struggle because you’re…

↳ Thinking it’s boring or dull
↳ Fearing appearing arrogant 
↳ Fearing coming across too ‘salesy’ 
↳ Ashamed  that your results aren’t as big as others in your niche.
(comparisonitis is real!)

So unless you address the fear, shame & limited self image,

you won’t get the results you’re capable of. 

Here’s what you can do:

1. Which one from the list is having the biggest impact on you?
(make a note of that on a piece of paper)

2. Gather and write down past successes, including any positive feedback, small wins, or moments of pride, to challenge and counteract this limiting belief.

3. Reframe your thoughts. For each piece of evidence you wrote down, craft a new statement that turns your limiting belief into a supportive one. 

E.g. "I fear appearing arrogant" > "Sharing my success can inspire others."

4. Visualise success. Spend a few minutes each day visualising yourself confidently sharing your achievements and receiving positive reactions. 

Not only does this feel great, it also reduces feelings of fear and shame.

5. Commit to a small action. Choose one piece of social proof you’ve identified and share it on your social media.

**Tag me in it when you do it - accountability works!**

Stop getting in your own way.

Start sharing your results.

People need to know what you do and how you do it in order to buy. 

So, go do it!

Caring too much about what others think is a waste of energy.

It stops you taking action towards your goals.

My biggest struggle as a new business owner…



The feast and famine cycle. 

Here’s how I consistently create clients without overwhelm,
(or sending a gazillion dms a day!)

When you’re working with clients it’s easy to take your foot off the gas. 

Concentrate on delivery and neglect your pipeline. 

This is the mistake I made at the beginning.

The clients finished and I was empty again, 
feast > famine. 

It was tiring and nerve racking. I had no stability. 

The unpredictable income was scary and it shattered my confidence. 

But I knew if I ignored the problem it wasn’t going to go away. 

Instead I'd end up burnt out and broke. 

From that point on I made a pact with myself to always be creating clients. 

This wasn’t just a strategy but a potent mindset shift.

Marketing and client creation wasn’t just a thing I did, it was a state of being. 

I’m always looking for ways I can serve. 

This creates conversations,

conversations = clients. 

Here’s 6 things you can do to banish the feast and famine cycle:

1. Follow ups: yes people do forget, 
2. Maintain relationships with past clients - reach out often and see if they need any help 
3. Serve people you meet powerfully - I don’t gate keep when I network. 
4. Become a better copywriter - I’ve invest A LOT in this over the past 6 months and it’s paying off
5. Ask for referrals 
6. Share your AB transformations - stop being so humble! 

There will always be seasons for delivery and seasons for marketing. 

But if you want to avoid the feast and famine cycle for good. 

Always be creating clients. 

This doesn’t mean selling - if you serve powerfully the sales will take care of itself.

Harsh Truth:


Most people need to take more responsibility.

(and stop with the victimhood mentality) 

I played the blame game for years. 

Bitter at others doing better. 

Always coming up with reasons why it was different for them. 
(& why it was harder for me)

It wasn’t until I took FULL responsibility did my 
health, 
relationships 
and finances drastically  improve. 

I’ve been a victim of medical negligence, drastically impacting my quality of life. 

It sucked. Still does sometimes. 

But eventually (yes it took work) I chose to not let it define me. 

Instead, I learned to walk again, 
invested a ton in alternative healthcare, 
got the help I needed to handle day to day life with more ease. 

Once you take ownership for your situation. Accept it fully. 

A space emerges, possibility unfolds. 

In that space you can reclaim your power and choose your next step. 

The next step that takes you a little closer to what you actually want. 

Not what you’re settling for. 

“But it’s not always that easy”

True. 

But what’s the alternative? 

Stay stuck in blame and resentment. 

That’s a heavy burden to carry. 

I have people in my life that are still bitter about stuff that happened to them decades ago. 

Never moved on. It ate them up. 

I don’t want that for me, and I don’t want that for you. 

So, what are you going to do about it? 

Blue pill, red pill. 

Choice is yours.

Mainly because I spent so long in a neggy headspace, and don’t wish it on anyone. 

Notice what needs changing, then get to work.

The trauma I experienced as a child manifested as a neurological condition 30 years later. 

It’s been 5 years since It all kicked off. 

It’s been really tough. But this ain’t no sob story.

At times I’ve felt ALOT of anger towards those that shaped my early years. 

Whilst there’s a space to process the pain (therapy has been life saving).

There came a time when I had a choice to make. 

Stay bitter and resentful, 
or radically accept my situation and crack on. 

The same goes for you.
 
Keep blaming the external world (Economy, AI, the algo)

↳ Only need 1 care call a day 4 times a week
↳ Got off benefits and started my business
↳ Moved into my dream apartment
↳ Wrote and released 2 albums worth of music
↳ Created dozens of client success stories

The list goes on…

You don’t need a crazy health journey to realise your resilience. 

You need to start taking responsibility and choose a different response.

- Not sharing social proof effectively
- Lacking clarity in his offer

What was it clear they needed?

- They needed a sales strategy to feel less selly

- Clarity in what they were offering (and why they’re so damn good at it!)

1. Vision - got super clear on what he wanted to create and why it was important
2. Mindset - Improved self image so that he could confidently connect with potential clients. 
& addressed money mindset blockages preventing him from charging more for his service. 
3. Strategy - Simplified his offer and refined his content strategy so it speaks to his ideal client
4. Skillset - Improved communication skills as it related to talking with ideal clients / sales conversations
5. Energy - Looked at what thoughts, beliefs, environments were draining his energy so that he could set boundaries effectively and have more energy to bring to his business.

- Singed 3 mid tier clients quickly
- Landed his first 4 figure client. 

If this wasn’t enough he now…

- Speaks with excitement about his work. 
- Knows he has what it takes to grow his business

It’s always the internal shifts that make me emotional.

When we feel like crap on the inside, no amount of success will sort that out. 

When you create success from the inside out, you get both.

1 question that changed everything for me:



So often we don’t take action because our emotions are getting in the way. 

Yet we don’t create enough space to be curious about what we’re feeling

This feels heavy and leads to inaction. 

And then we wonder why? 

Why am I…

↳ Procrastinating
↳ Losing motivation
↳ Unable to focus properly
↳ Losing temper with loved ones
↳ Lacking confidence in my work
↳ Feeling overwhelmed and rundown 

Ignore these problems and you won’t get the results you want (in life & business)
Or you’ll sacrifice your health and relationships in the process. 

Nothing is worth that. 

I sacrificed both and I’m still rebuilding 5 years later. 

The solution lies inside. 

But if you don't look there, you’ll keep blaming everyone else for your problems. 

You need to turn towards, not away. 

The question I invite you to sit with is this..

‘What am I  unwilling to feel’

So often we resist feeling. 

In the past I’ve felt:

↳  Angry I didn’t get the results I wanted
↳  Frustrated that my launch didn’t go as well as I’d hoped
↳  Sad that my health has had such a big impact on my life

It’s ok to feel these things, but unless I’m doing the work to be with and process my emotions I’ll stay in reactivity. 

Being in a constant state of fight or flight reactivity makes running a business WAY more stressful and draining that it needs to be. 

(It also drastically impacts your health AND your relationships)

So, spend some time to be with yourself. 

Journal, be in nature, speak with someone, dance, listen to music. 

Whatever works. 

The more you can integrate your emotional state the easier it becomes to self regulate. 

Less stress, more joy. 

I can honestly say I rarely get angry, frustrated or sad anymore. 

It’s not to say I won’t. But because I make space to feel, it flows through.

What you resist, persists. 

Keep fighting it and it’ll come back stronger. 

Ask this question, be curious (and compassionate)

It’s not about feeling better, but getting better at feeling.

Instead of seeking validation. Start focussing on this:



Adopt mindset of self-approval and personal mastery.


The need for validation made being a musician miserable


I used to play all over the world. (and got paid pretty well for it)

It was my life for 5 years. 

Festivals, 
private villas, 
cocktail parties, 
lavish weddings. 

Very booji, very glam. 

But It took years before I actually enjoyed it. 

I was constantly seeking validation in my work. 

If the gig went well I was happy, (ish), if poorly? I was miserable. 

It fuelled my self doubt and drained my creative energy. 

The external validation was a temporary fix to a deeper problem. 

It’s the same in my business. 

If I get too attached to the praise and adulation for doing a good job, I’m out of flow and less able to deliver. 

One time I was asked to play at a villa in Ibiza. 
All the movers and shakers of the Island were there. 

Pressure was on and I wanted to impress!

But the need to impress, the desire to show off got me so nervous that I bombed!

I’ll never forget it, my hand was trembling and I didn’t produce my best work. 

But it was the best lesson I ever received. 

When you let go of the need to be validated in your work, 

you gain more access to creativity (and enjoy the process way more)

You also create distance form the outcome and find more joy in the process. 


P.S. If you didn’t need the validation of others, what would become available to you?

95% of solopreneurs over complicate sales 
(so will never have a consistent income)



When you struggle to sign clients consistently, it can be a real energy drain. 

The place of lack makes it even harder to bring the mindset needed to sign new clients. 

Not only is it stressful but it leads to a scarcity mindset. 

No one buys from needy. 

(You can smell it a mile off.)

Chances are you’re overcomplicating sales and so don’t get the results you want. 

Leading to more overwhelm so the cycle repeats. 

So, let’s fix that.

Whether it’s..

- sending dm’s
- emailing your list
- sending cold emails
- nurturing your leads
- upselling current clients
- following up with past clients

All you’re ever doing is one thing. 

CREATING CONVERSATIONS. 

That’s it. 

If you create more conversations you will sign more clients. 

End of. 

Conversations give you the chance to create connection & add value. 

The biggest block to having more of them? 

YOU!

You get in your own way. 

- Afraid of rejection
- Afraid of things not working out 
- Afraid of appearing overly ‘salesy’

Ultimately, you’re afraid of hearing the word NO. 

But you NO just stands for Next Opportunity. 

I used to be petrified of hearing this word. 

I took it personally. I made it about me. 

I used to think If they say no, it means I’m not enough. 

BS!! 

Now I know my self worth isn’t dependent on my results. 

When you realise this you become unstoppable. 

It was rarely about me, 9/10 we weren’t a good fit. 

When it was was about the way I handled the conversation, 

I knew what I needed to improve on. 

This data is invaluable if you care about growing.

Chase the no’s, collect them, celebrate them. 

Don’t let the fearful part run the show. 

Remember…

↳ Embrace 'No' -rejection is redirection.
↳ Be kind to yourself, we’re all still figuring this sh*t out. 
↳ Visualise success - state influences strategy & execution
↳ Connect with the value you have to offer - remember past wins. 
↳Invest in a mentor that’s walked this path - it’ll speed things up
↳ Remember, you’re not alone, we all have ups and downs. (cheesy but easily forgotten)

Stop overthinking. Start simplifying.


P.S. Think of 1 person you’d love to reach out to but haven’t because you’ve been too afraid. 

Could be a potential client, a contact, a past client…

How I take risks and manage fear in 4 steps.

1. Define Your Fears: Clearly articulate what you're afraid of in the context of taking a specific risk.

2. Prevent and Repair: Identify steps you can take to prevent these fears from coming true, and ways to repair the damage if they do occur.

3. Benefits of Attempt: List the potential benefits of an attempt or partial success.

4. Cost of Inaction: Reflect on the emotional, financial, and physical cost if you do nothing.

This method helps you see the minimal true risk involved, increases your confidence, and clarifies the much higher cost of inaction.

Lean into the uncertainty with Fear-Setting. It’s not just about managing risks—it’s about defining and overcoming them to unlock your true potential.

I’m not a fan of simply ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’, it’ sover simplfieid and ignores nuance. 

Fear is a teacher and it’s there for a reason. 

If we bring a lens of curiosity and compassion, we create lasting change. 

Working with it, rather than against it.
