I study the rise & fall of civilisations. One thing all collapsed civilisations had in common? They refused to believe it could happen to them. Expect things to get a lot stranger as psychological defences are overwhelmed across swathes of the population struggling to make sense of an increasingly incomprehensible world. This will also be reflected in the quality of leaders that rise to power. As a student scholar of deep history, I've found that the phenomenon of collapse has occurred in every 'Civilisation' being final form. We're no different as we too move along the great civilisation cycle to which we're all bound. Being normal will be seen as being heterodox against the regressed orthodoxy, as they slide into totalitarian forms of insanity. Unfortunately, as levels of stress & anxiety rise, so too persecution & scapegoating. It's paramount you stay sane as temperaments revert to their mean - a world where our more primeval limbic systems override our neocortex. Study enough history by looking inwards at human nature, you notice that the phenomenon of collapse has occurred many times across successful cultures spanning millennia. All have come & gone following similar cycles. In fact, it is any given culture's success leading to great urbanised wealth, which inevitably sows the seeds for its own decay. Ancient Greco-Rome providing the most fascinating parallels with today's 'modern' West. No one yet has figured out ways to get off this cyclical ride of temperamental sunrise, zenith & sunset, nor short-circuit decline. This means that the rise & fall of civilisations is based upon 'temperament', defined as the psychological & emotional foundations of personality, which underpins our behaviour, virtues, vices, morals, ethics, even how we structure the economy & choose our governments. Temperament has a biological basis which changes over time, impacting our culture, shaping our identity, right down to our DNA. Please follow if you're interested in civilisational mechanics, how it applies today in real-time, where we analyse multi-disciplinary subjects such as history, biology, cross-cultural anthropology, economics, geopolitics, epigenetics, neuroendocrinology & more. Environment, cultural values & childrearing patterns, all combine to determine whether societies prosper or collapse, how social change can be both predicted & potentially modified through biochemistry. Our only hope now for civilisation may lie hidden deep within human nature itself. Perhaps we can unlock secrets where others have failed. Time, no longer our ally.
