I help lead PMI’s academic research working as part of the wider global Academic Programs team.  This work includes research funding and publications, research dissemination, research events and conferences, academic awards, collaborations and the Project Management Journal (PMJ).

Association for Project Management

I created and led the research program for the Association for Project Management (APM) which aims to advance the art, science, theory and practice and project management. Key aspects of the role included: commissioning and developing research studies many of which are APM’s most read and utilized publications, having oversight of APM’s Research Fund, aiding the dissemination academic research for practice, informing events and webinars and collaborating with other like-minded organizations to support APM’s wider influencing agenda. I was pleased to help engender a research culture from scratch to helping position APM as one of the leading thought leaders in the project profession whilst being enshrined in their Royal Charter.

University of Bedfordshire

Working as a Project Manager for the Knowledge Hub I led the delivery of a number of the University’s key strategic initiatives.  B-Innovative was an EU funded partnership programme which provides would be entrepreneurs with the opportunity to develop the skills and expertise needed to start-up their own business. My role involved me leading the European consortium of partners to deliver agreed work packages, leading research that explored methods for delivering enterprise education and developing an effective course to support would-be entrepreneurs in the UK.  I ensured that the project was not just a success nationally but also internationally whilst exploring the opportunity of developing and validating a European accreditation. As the project lead for Skills for Growth, an ESF funded project innovative leadership and management programme I was responsible for the promotion and recruitment of delegates, selection of tutors, liaising with funding providers and programme content design and support.  I also played a key role in the creation of Innovation Bridge, an innovation and technology focused business support programme, in conjunction with Cranfield University and Central Bedfordshire Council amongst other partners.

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education

My main responsibility was to project manage and co-ordinate the development of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education and its constituent chapters. This role involved a variety of tasks; such as liaising with both in-house specialists and external authors; ensuring that Chapters are published according to schedule and remain on cost, as well as organising, promoting and supporting UK wide consultation events for the Quality Code.  Working alongside the Head of Standards, Quality and Enhancement I actively monitored and managed performance management and the use of management information against agreed targets.  I was also tasked with production, event management, promotion and publicity for the Quality Code along with communication and media planning.  I played an active role in the use of new technologies and processes to help reach out to new audiences. Lead and collaborate with colleagues across QAA groups to devise new ways of working including conducting research into whether these would be advantageous to existing work practices.

Project Officer/Coordinator

GFirst/ Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership

PProviding project coordination to core initiatives across the county including building links between businesses and schools, helping unemployed individuals start their own business, growing and preparing bids to further our existing work.  I have led or developed a number of major bids including Gloucestershire’s Enterprise Zone submission to central government.  This required me to work effectively with a variety of senior stakeholders each with their own competing priorities.  Research is a crucial element of my current role to ensure that we have the latest statistics for reports, prospective funding or for team members in the field. One of my major projects involved the promotion and support of key business sectors where I was the project lead for both Energy and Creative Industries. This involved me acquiring knowledge of their specific business needs whilst working with educational establishments to find viable solutions for their issues. I was often required to run a series of projects simultaneously, coordinating staff and resource where required and splitting my workload in relation to task priority. This included working across a variety of projects and sub teams that have been created from more than one organisation; requiring me to build up strong relationships that can be utilised on future initiatives.  An additional part of my role was to market and promote GFirst’s key activities through a variety of mediums- radio, video, drafting press releases and the creation of marketing literature.

Project Coordinator

As Project Coordinator I provided staff and resource co-ordination, event management and support to Parklife, a business support service for strategic business parks throughout Gloucestershire.  I acted as GFirst’s project lead for Graduate Challenge, a £1million HEFCE funded graduate work-placement programme, working in conjunction with the University of Gloucestershire.  In addition I produced detailed stakeholder reports to ensure that we achieved our key performance indicator and Service Level Agreements with funding providers.  I gained leadership and line management experience through overseeing the Parklife Team’s activity, chairing all team meetings and being responsible for Project Assistants.

Project Officer for the development of Gloucester’s Business Improvement District [BID], I had day-today responsibility for coordinating the project and was actively involved in the strategic business planning. I attended national BID/regeneration conferences and seminars and both presented on key issues and networked with senior stakeholders. I also chaired BID Shadow Board meetings helped develop and manage the relevant marketing and PR activities. This required excellent oral, written, face to face and persuasive communication skills to demonstrate the projects value.   Sound financial and budgetary management skills were crucial in ensuring the project was delivered on time and within budget.
