I’ve seen it firsthand… brilliant founders and seasoned executives who show up with polish, yet struggle to create real connection. At Family Office Access, we built something different. A platform that doesn’t just match people by capital goals, but by values, timing, and trust.

I’m Danielle Patterson, Founder and CEO of Family Office Access. What began in 2016 as a leap of faith, acquiring a modest directory, has grown into a platform used by thousands of professionals around the world. We help Family Offices, capital partners, and founders find each other and build meaningful, long-term partnerships.

My own path into this world wasn’t a straight line. I started in the arts, managing a fine art gallery under a National Geographic photographer. After the 2008 financial crisis, I moved cross country and reinvented myself with a transition into sales and business development. I learned how to build from scratch, lead with resilience, and earn trust one relationship at a time.

That foundation now shapes everything we do. Our platform is built not just to provide access to information, but to offer thoughtful strategy, clear filtering tools, and personalized support. Whether someone is raising capital, stewarding generational wealth, or exploring strategic partnerships, we help them move with clarity and purpose.

Through our MasterClass series and Lunch & Learn events, we bring voices to the table that might not otherwise be heard. These aren’t just webinars, they’re conversations that create momentum, open doors, and drive alignment.

Beyond the business, I’m a wife, a mother of three, and someone who finds grounding in nature and creativity. Whether I’m painting, gardening, or cooking, I’m most at peace when I’m building something beautiful, personally or professionally.

One of my favorite quotes is, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” It reminds me daily that success isn’t just what we build. It’s who we become along the way.

New York always has a pulse, and this weekend we got to feel it, while also taking part in a standout gathering with our partners at Jets and Capital Events. 

Among the many Family Office conferences out there, this one is simply the most fun and high-energy. Thank you, Jets & Capital (Jordan M. Hutchinson and team), for an exceptional event on the Intrepid Museum. A spectacular way to spend a Saturday, with proceeds supporting Semper Fi & America's Fund’s Fund and the service members, veterans, and military families they serve.

Sometimes the right place and the right time appear when you show up with curiosity and follow through with integrity.

Years ago, I attended my first DC Finance's Global Family Office & High Net Worth Community conference as a paying attendee. I didn’t know anyone. I came to listen, to learn from families, and to understand how I could contribute. That experience shaped how I view the Family Office community.

Working with Family Offices begins and ends with trust. We earn it by showing up authentically, listening closely, honoring discretion, and being consistent. Relationships in this space grow through respectful follow-up, aligned values, and a clear shared purpose.

Over time, Denny Chared (the Founder of DC Finance) and I built a partnership grounded in those same principles. I’ve learned from him what it takes to create conversations that move people and how to design gatherings that encourage connection, not just attendance. From my side, I’ve brought focus, precision, and a data-driven approach to who should be in those rooms and why. My role has been to connect founders and families who share purpose and to strengthen each discussion with context and intent. Together, we’ve found an approach that blends thoughtful curation with authentic human connection.

That shared vision is why I’m honored to be emceeing the flagship East Coast Family Office & High Net Worth Conference in New York on Tuesday, October 28 at The Union League Club. These gatherings, guided by families themselves, create space for open dialogue around purpose, stewardship, and lasting impact.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep learning from people who lead with values, to keep earning trust, and to keep helping bring together the right people for the right conversations.

When we measure ourselves against the future, frustration grows. But when we pause to reflect on what’s improved, perspective shifts.

This weekend I’m heading to Chicago for my first Strategic Coach workshop. It’s a chance to step away from the day-to-day and refocus on the big picture.

Even before it starts, I’ve been challenged by ideas from founder Dan Sullivan’s books. That line above resonated deeply, and I’m excited to learn more.

As a tech CEO in the Family Office space, I’m always pushing for what’s next. New goals, new growth, new milestones. But it’s rare that I stop to reflect on what we’ve already accomplished. I’m proud of what my team and I have built so far, even as we keep raising the bar.

I’ll share key takeaways from the workshop soon. In the meantime, I’d love to hear: how do you celebrate wins while staying focused on what’s ahead? And while we’re at it, what restaurants should I check out while I’m in Chicago?

Giving back always fills us with gratitude, but sharing the experience with those we love takes it to another level. Last weekend my daughter and I spent time volunteering at the food bank here in Charleston.

When we serve alongside our children, we’re not only building stronger relationships through shared experiences, we’re also instilling values that will carry into the next generation.

There are countless ways to give; our time, our gifts, our talents… not just financially. Life can feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to believe there isn’t enough time to add one more thing. But I’ve learned that when I prioritize what truly matters, space always opens up. The act of giving creates a ripple effect that comes back in ways we often don’t expect.

For me, that realization has shown up in new responsibilities that once felt daunting, but have turned into unexpected joy. Whether teaching children’s church, leading community programs, or simply showing up at the food bank with my daughter, I’ve found that giving often gives back more energy than it takes.

They call Chicago “the city that works,” but today was about learning when to slow down. I spent the day with 30 entrepreneurs at a Strategic Coach workshop exploring the Entrepreneurial Time System built around Free Days, Focus Days, and Buffer Days. It’s a simple way to be more intentional with time, find balance, and build something that lasts.

I’ve always believed that slowing down helps you move further ahead, but I haven’t been great at practicing it. A real Free Day means no work at all. No emails, no calls, no quick check-ins. Just time to reset so I can come back clear and focused.

I also want to be more deliberate about Focus Days, keeping them centered on the work that truly matters. And most of my days already function like Buffer Days; they just need clearer structure so the planning and organizing actually support the work instead of blurring into it.

Today was a good reminder to be more present and intentional, which fits my theme for the year: slowing down to speed up.

Walking out into the Chicago evening, I thought about how this city never really stops but keeps its rhythm. That steady consistency gives it strength. Finding that same balance feels like the key to building success that’s sustainable and worth enjoying. What’s the point of all the hard work if you don’t enjoy it, especially with the people you love?

Grateful for what I learned today and ready to recalibrate with more structure, presence, and purpose.

Family offices quietly changed their playbook this year.

Goldman’s new Family Office Investment Insights shows that most families stretched out the maturity of their fixed income. Last year, nearly half had a duration >2 years. Now 72% say the average is 3 years or more, with 57% sitting in the 3-5 year range. The Fed just cut rates & more cuts are expected, which means many families locked in better yields before the window narrowed.

In plain English: They bought themselves time and income. With bond ladders pushed out, cash piles will likely come down & risk budgets will shift toward places where they think they have an edge.

Why does this matter if you want to work with Family Offices.....
💡 Expect a “risk on, but selective” mindset. Many are adding to private equity, quality credit, and public equities, but they want clear edges and strong governance.

💡 Lead with fit. Show how your strategy complements a longer duration core. Be specific about the use of proceeds, downside protection, and the path to liquidity.

💡 Talk timing. Acknowledge the rate path and explain how it affects your pipeline, capital calls, and cash flow. Clean, practical portfolio math goes a long way.

💡 Keep it human. Families make decisions around purpose and relationships. Bring ideas that help them solve problems, not just a pitch.

Working with Family Offices starts long before the first email. Email can open a door, but relationships keep it open. Families want to know who you are, why you reached out, and whether you did your homework. They are not like institutions. They do not turn over with a new fund cycle. When you build trust with a family, you build something that can last.

Why do some of the wealthiest families in the world risk everything by ignoring succession planning? UBS reports that only 53% of families have a plan in place. Even more concerning, only 1 in 4 families keep wealth intact into the next generation. That means many of those who prepare still fail when it matters most.

Preserving wealth requires more than capital. Families need education, guidance, support, and direction to navigate the future in a positive way. That is why more Family Offices are turning to Family Office Access to meet the right people who can help them strengthen their structures and safeguard their legacy.

What used to be private and secretive is now becoming more professionalized, and for good reason. This is one of the most siloed and fragmented industries in the world. There is no single right way to run a family, but there are countless ways to run one better.

Family Offices also need access to smart people with great ideas. Money on its own struggles to find opportunity. The real advantage comes when resources and ideas connect. That connection is instrumental for Family Offices to deploy capital effectively and ensure wealth does more than survive. It grows, adapts, and creates lasting impact.

More families are also using Family Office Access to connect with other Family Offices, share best practices, and learn from one another. Collaboration at this level turns isolation into strength, creating networks that help families preserve and grow wealth across generations.

The challenge of succession will improve over time because of what is happening now: education, open dialogue, and the sharing of best practices. I am proud to get to be part of this amazing community and know its role in solving one of the greatest issues in Family Office history will keep getting better and better with time.
