Senior Engineering Manager

As the Engineer Manager, I oversaw three teams: Cloud Platform, Cybersecurity, and QA Platform, managing 8 direct and 3 indirect reports. By maintaining high team morale and minimizing turnover, I ensured operational stability and continuity. I also managed the teams' backlogs, assuming the responsibilities of a TPM, and implemented agile methodologies, overseeing ceremonies such as refinement, planning, retrospective, and review. Additionally, I cultivated relationships with vendors, onboarding new ones, terminating underperforming contracts, and optimizing costs. I successfully closed deals and saved costs, ultimately managing over 3 million USD in vendor contracts while introducing robust cost control measures for transparent expenditure tracking.

As a lead devops engineer, I am responsible for building up the platform team that bridges the gap between the infrastructure teams and the solution teams, making sure that the team had a purpose - driven by OKRs, a process framework to make sure it was self-sustainable and self-evolving, a roadmap based upon several stakeholders needs, and a health hiring and onboarding process.

As a lead devops engineer, I stepped up several times to fill up the gap caused by growing pains, doing people management with multiple teams located in Brazil, Europe, India, and Singapore, to help to keep the infrastructure and the platform teams focused and delivering while looking up for my team members needs as people and professionals during the pandemic.

As a lead software engineer, I worked to provide direction, purpose, empower individuals, as well as care for the career paths of the people that reported to me. I also was involved in the split-up of the engineering team by creating and advocating for several proposals for how to organize the teams and the microservice fleet.

As a lead software engineer, I also provided technical support for my team and for the ones above me by actively participating in design decisions, code reviews, feature design/architecture and also participated in handovers of technologies to the teams that report to me from teams of external contractors or another division within the organization.

I am also the main driver of the headcount increase for my team by working together with HR in creating and documenting the interview processes (from screening to technical interview), and after the hiring process I also created and documented the onboarding process; I also participated in the interview process for DevSecOps, Architect, and other roles in different teams

Helped to build and overwatch AWS architecture (networking, security, and tooling) so we could deliver a secure platform as fast, secure and cheap as possible using Infrastructure as Code through Python scripting and AWS Cloudformation, and Python Troposphere lib.
I was also responsible for the design and the development of core microservices such as email systems, PKI certificate management systems and others using technologies such as Python, Flask, Go, Mux, AWS Lambda functions, AWS API Gateways, AWS Certificate Manager (PCA), AWS SES, Mailgun and others.

Staff Development Engineer

Developing/Architecting/Deploying a microservice environment with Docker, Java 8, DynamoDB, Serverless with AWS Lambda Functions (Python), and AWS API Gateway, that helped to lay down a paved road to the further development of Watchguard AuthPoint platform, bringing new services in as fast as possible.

Between the technology stack, I was involved with a microservice architecture deployed using Python and Boto3 in an immutable deployment fashion through AWS Cloudformation templates delivering the microservices written in Java and installed on the Docker containers to an AWS ECS cluster. On the development side of the microservice, I was involved with Spring Ecosystem for Java (Boot, JPA, and JMS), AWS Java SDK (SNS, S3, etc), and for unit testing, Spock 🖖🏻. I also played with a serverless combo involving AWS API Gateway and AWS Lambda functions written in Python.

Design and development of Datablink demo portal. My responsibilities included: 1) Configure an efficient continuous integration pipeline using Jenkins, Gradle and Gitlab feature branches and merge requests, which have improved the developers feedback and the reliability of the platform; 2) Design and develop the system architecture using JAX-RS, JAX-WS and AngularJS 1.x; 3) Coaching the development team in the use of best practices, such as TDD and refactoring.

Lead the development of the Ericsson CMS User Portal®. My responsibilities included: 1) Coaching an agile team with 10+ developers in the use of agile best practices, such as TDD, refactoring and continuous delivery; 2) Designing the application using state of the art technolocies, such as AngularJS, Grails, SASS, Spock and Jasmine, leading to a highly productive environment known for its quality and adaptability; 3) Designing the API of several microservices allowing the integration with other Ericsson media products.

Development of rich user experience applications. My responsibilities involved: 1) Designing frontend components using AngularJS and styling it with SASS; 2) Writing automated tests for Javascript using Jasmine, GruntJS and Karma. 3) Implementation of RESTful services using Grails, Groovy, Resteasy, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL.

Designing and developing the infrastructure as code for Ericsson CMaaS, a highgly available and scalable content processing platform on AWS. These tools lead to: 1) An economy of over U$20k/year by turning off unused resources 2) Allowing DevOps engineers to reproduce production environment with a couple of commands; 3) Reducing the release time of updates to production from several hours to a few minutes. 4) Allowing DevOps engineers to easily rollback changes in production.

Responsible for creating an efficient Continuous Delivery system. By coaching the team into test automation best practices and creating a clever build pipeline we were able to: 1) Reliably release to production several time a day; 2) Early detection of issues; 3) AB testing..

Major driver of an efficient DevOps culture, which allowed: 1) The organization to save money by avoiding the need for a dedicated operations team 2) Reducing the time between the detection of an issue and the release of its fix; 3) Increasing the agility of features releases.
