¿Mis consejos?

👉 Sé sincero con el problema: I promise to be as clear as possible but if you are uncertain about anything just let me know.
👉 Pide feedback: How is the project on X going?/Does anyone have any comments or need me to clarify anything?
👉 Pide que te corrijan: If I say something wrong or strange, please correct me.
👉 Si vas a decir algo sobre lo que no estás seguro, dilo abiertamente: I’m not too sure about how to say this the right way so correct me if I’m mistaken.
👉 Comprueba que has comprendido: Just to make sure I got what you mean, you meant to say XXX, right?
👉 Comprueba que te han comprendido: Are we all clear?

8 FRASES EN INGLÉS PARA CUANDO NO SABES LA RESPUESTA A ALGO

Un día estaba sentado en un parque hablando con un amigo, aprovechando el día soleado, cuando los dos escuchamos una conversación que estaba ocurriendo cerca nuestro entre tres personas.

Lo que más nos llamó la atención fue que estaban hablando en inglés.

Para una de las tres personas, el inglés claramente no era su lengua materna (mother tongue). Mientras los otros dos le hacían preguntas, podíamos escuchar que respondía siempre “I don’t know”.

Con mi amigo nos quedamos hablando sobre esto último, y yo me quedé pensando en qué otras cosas podría haber dicho esa persona en vez de “I don’t know”.

Si te interesa saber qué decir en inglés cuando no sabes la respuesta a algo, échale un vistazo a esta lista:

1. I’ll get back to you on that.
2. Let me look into that and catch up with you later.
3. I couldn’t tell you right now, but I’ll find out.
4. I’m not sure I’m the best person to answer that. Why don’t you try talking to…
5. Let me check so that I can give you a better answer.
6. I’m not sure at the moment, but I’ll look into it.
7. I’m afraid I’m not sure, but I can double-check that for you.
8. That’s a good question, let me look at that for you.

¿Quieres sonar más natural y expresivo en inglés? Pues deja de lado el clásico "You're welcome" y amplía tu repertorio. Aquí tienes 6 alternativas para distintas situaciones profesionales:

FORMAL:

But there's a better way!

Good morning/afternoon/evening [Name], (Formal, clients) 
 
Following up on [Previous Email/Meeting], (Referencing past interaction)

Choose the option that best suits your relationship and email tone. 
 
Bonus Tip: 
 
For group emails, use "Hello team" or "Hi everyone." 
 
Now you can ditch "Dear" and write engaging email openings!

6 palabras clave para negociar EN INGLÉS

Sentado en un restaurante una noche, escuché una conversación en inglés de la mesa de al lado entre dos personas, que parecían estar en una reunión de negocios.

Por lo que estaban discutiendo, me dio la impresión de que estaban negociando sobre algo.

Sin embargo, la conversación se entrecortaba un poco porque uno de los dos parecía no tener el vocabulario suficiente como para expresarse bien.

Esto me dejó pensando en lo importante que es poder negociar bien en inglés ya sea por trabajo o por la vida en general.

Por esta razón, a continuación dejo una lista de vocabulario clave para negociar en inglés.

👉 bottom-line: lo mínimo que uno está dispuesto a aceptar. “I’ll give you a 10% raise, but that’s my bottom-line.”

👉 to bargain: tratar de hacer cambiar de opinión a otro. “I tried to bargain with her, but she wouldn’t budge.”

👉 to compensate: compensar por una pérdida. “After a couple of emails, they agreed to compensate him for the faulty product.”

👉 the ball is in your court: la pelota está en su tejado. “I’ve already told you what I want, now the ball is in your court.”

👉 come to an agreement: llegar a un acuerdo.

👉 viable: que se puede llevar a cabo. “What you are proposing is not viable at this time. Maybe in a month.”

Have you noticed that I have put 3 words in CAPITALS? 
 
JUST 
JUMP 
QUICK 
 
These are your secret weapons for interrupting well and politely. 
 
Use them. They work. 
 
Why? 
 
Because they show that YOU know you are interrupting and that the interruption will be brief (short). 
 
That's what makes them powerful AND polite.

Un cliente mío escuchó hace poco la expresión "top notch" en una reunión de negocios y no tenía ni idea de lo que significaba.

Así que pensé que sería bueno explicar 3 expresiones empresariales que incluyen la palabra "top"

Here they are:

1) Over the top or OTT (exagerado/a)
Example: I think his reaction was a bit over the top (OTT)
Spanish: Creo que su reacción fue un poco exagerada

2) Off the top of my head (de memoria)
Example: I can't remember exactly but off the top of my head, I think that...
Spanish: No me acuerdo exactamente, pero de memoria, creo que...

3) Top notch (algo de primera categoría)
Example: Daniel's Free Friday Email is top notch!
Spanish: ¡El Free Friday Email de Daniel es de primera categoría!

Sorry about that last one! I couldn't resist the temptation "to blow my own trumpet" (darse bombo)!

3 consejos cuando te frustra no hablar inglés como un nativo 
 
Aprender a hablar con fluidez en un idioma que no es el materno puede ser frustrante. Muchas veces parece que, sin importar cuánto se practique, la fluidez no es la misma. 
 
Hace unos días, una clienta me llamó diciéndome que comunicarse en inglés le era muy difícil, y cada vez que lo hacía le frustraba no poder hablar con la misma comodidad que en español. 
 
Entendiendo a qué se refería, le dije lo siguiente para no frustrarse al hablar inglés con otros: 
 
1) Ten en mente lo más importante a la hora de hablar con otros: que te entiendan. A veces lo mejor no es tratar de sonar idéntico a un nativo, sino más bien concentrarse en poder expresar tus ideas en inglés de una manera clara. 
 
2) Para poder perfeccionar el inglés, como con la mayoría de las cosas, se requiere paciencia y práctica. Cada vez que hables inglés, vas a estar prácticando. Hay algunas cosas que no se pueden apurar. 
 
3) Por último, para evitar la frustración debes tener en cuenta que hablar más de un idioma es un gran mérito. Nadie espera que tu acento o fluidez sean perfectos, solo que puedas comunicarte de la manera correcta.

¡5 maneras de decir "sacar adelante" en inglés!

A muchos profesionales españoles les cuesta encontrar el equivalente perfecto para el poderoso "sacar adelante".

The good news is that English offers plenty of options to express your drive and determination.

Here are 5 great options: 

1) See it Through: Simple, directo y enfatiza la finalización del proyecto.
Ejemplo: "Even though we faced some challenges, we were able to see the project through to completion." 

2) Move Forward: Destaca el progreso y la toma de acción.
Ejemplo: "Let's move forward with this plan and discuss the next steps." 

3) Get Things Done: Orientado a la acción y transmite eficiencia.
Ejemplo: "I'm a results-oriented professional who can get things done." 

4) Make it Happen: Positivo y enérgico, perfecto para inspirar equipos.
Ejemplo: "Together, we can make this vision happen!" 

5) Bring it to Fruition : Formal y enfatiza la finalización exitosa.
Ejemplo: "Years of hard work have finally brought our plans to fruition." 

Bonus tip: 
Tailor your choice to the situation. In a meeting, "see it through" conveys focus. With a client, "make it happen" projects confidence.

¿"prestar" y "pedir prestado" en inglés?

It's a tricky one! Te lo explico rápidamente:

prestar = lend
pedir prestado = borrow

Pero a menudo escucho esto de mis clientes:

❌ Can you borrow me your pen?

¿Le resulta familiar? ¡Ten cuidado de no caer en esa trampa!

¿Necesitas un truco?

Look at these two sentences:

✔ Can I borrow your pen?
✔ Can YOU lend me your pen?

Ambas significan lo mismo, pero el sujeto de la frase es diferente.

So a simple rule to remember is:

When your sentence is focused on "I" (yourself) then use "borrow".
When your sentence is focused on "YOU" (another person) then use "lend"

Cliente: "Quiero dejar de traducir en mi cabeza". 
 
Oigo ese comentario al menos una vez al día. Es un objetivo muy común. 
 
My answer? 
 
Traducir en la cabeza no es el problema. Lo problemático es la velocidad y la habilidad de la traducción. 
 
Think of this metaphor: 
 
Cuando aprendes a conducir tienes que pensar en 1000 cosas diferentes: 
 
-espejo (mirror) 
-señal (signal) 
-maniobra (maneuver) 
-marchas (gears) 
-embrague (clutch) 
-volante (steering wheel) 
-acelerador (accelerator) 
-freno (brake) 
 
¡Pero cuando llevas unos 6 meses conduciendo puedes hacer TODO eso además de pensar en lo que vas a cenar por la noche! 
 
That is the power of the brain! 
 
¡Todas las habilidades de conducción se han almacenado en una parte del cerebro que está SUPERCHARGED! 
 
¡Así, cuando necesitas acceder a esa información puedes recibirla a HIGH SPEED! 
 
So, the next question is: 
 
¿Cómo puedo llevar mi inglés a esa parte de mi cerebro? 
 
This is where the hard work begins! Tienes que practicar y exponerte a diario. 
 
Just like you get into your car on a daily basis, you need to flex your English muscles frequently otherwise your brain just won't let that info in! 
 
Así que recuerda que tu cerebro es una herramienta increíble, pero hay que entrenarlo. 
 
¡Tiene que saber qué información debe almacenarse y dónde!

Ayer estaba corrigiendo un texto de un cliente mío cuando me encontré con esta frase:

❌ "The report is working progress and will be finished next week."

¿Ves el problema?

"working progress" NO es correcto.

¡El problema se origina en la forma en que se pronuncia el término y es muy fácil asumir que la ortografía correcta es el gerundio!

¡Pero no lo es!

La versión CORRECTA es "work in progress" o "work-in-progress"

Por lo tanto, la frase debería ser así:

✔ "The report is WORK IN PROGRESS and will be finished next week."

Español: "El informe está en proceso de elaboración y estará terminado la próxima semana".

I had no idea...until recently! 
 
Want to know how to pronounce it? 
 
Suite = Sweet 
 
It's that easy. 
 
So, let's set out the main players in the C-Suite: 
 
CEO (Chief Executive Officer) 
CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 
COO (Chief Operating Officer) 
CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) 
CIO (Chief Information Officer) 
CHRO (Chief Human Resources Officer) 
 
Do you think that all of them? 
 
Well, you would be wrong.  
 
There are plenty more "chiefs": 
 
CCO (Chief Customer Officer) 
CTO (Chief Technology Officer) 
CDO (Chief Data Officer) 
 
Understanding these C-suite roles helps you communicate. 
 
It reduces overwhelm when you are communicating in a foreign language.

The interview starts with: "Tell us a little about yourself."... ¿La mente en blanco? 
Answer with these 3 steps: 
 
1) Hook 'em fast (Enganchalos rápido): Briefly mention a relevant experience or skill. 
 
2) Bridge to the job (Crea un puente hacia el trabajo): Show how it connects to the position you're applying for. 
 
3) Highlight your strengths (Resalta tus fortalezas): Mention 1-2 key skills that benefit the company. 
 
Example: 
 
"I've spent the last 3 years leading social media campaigns for a tech startup. We increased brand awareness by 20%. For this role, I'm excited about using my creativity and data analysis skills to develop engaging content for your company's new product launch." 
 
Keep it concise (Manténlo conciso) - 1-2 minutes is ideal.

This is what I told him: 
 
The business world is full of strange expressions.  
 
But don't worry. 
 
All you need to do is make sure they don't confuse you! 
 
Here are 4 that will help you: 
 
1) Move the needle (Mover la aguja): Make progress that produces results. 
 
2) Boil down to (Reducir a): Summarize the main point. 
 
3) Low-hanging fruit (Fruta madura): Easy task to complete. 
 
4) Get buy-in (Lograr aceptación): Get everyone on board. 
 
Remember: 
You don't NEED to use them. Just understanding them is the first step! 
 
Focus on getting them into your PASSIVE vocabulary. 
 
And add them to your ACTIVE vocabulary later!

Friendly Tone: "Thanks for your email!" or "Enjoy your week!" 
 
Here's an example: 
 
Thanks for your email! 
I'm out of the office from August 1st to August 15th with limited email access. 
For urgent matters, please contact Maria Lopez at [email address removed]. 
I'll respond to emails upon return on August 16th. 
Enjoy your week! 
 
Simple, clear, and sets expectations! 
 
Bonus Tip: 
 
For vacations, add a lighthearted touch: "Out of Office, Recharging for [Fun Activity]."
