Be honest... how did you sleep last night? 💤 I started asking my clients this question 5 years ago instead of the standard "How are you?" ⌚ I don't want you to check your health wearable for the answer. ✋🏼 Instead, pause and reflect on what you know to be true - do you feel like you're sleeping as well as you could be? Throughout my life, I've learned that sleep is one of, if not THE, greatest predictor of objective performance and subjective sense of well-being. I also discovered that to perform at a high individual and become smarter, wiser and more energetic in how I approach my career and personal life, I needed to pay attention to the 8 hours my mind and body spend preparing for it - that is; I needed to learn how to master my sleep. 😴 Personally, I now sleep really well almost every night. But my life wasn't always this way... As an adolescent, I suffered from severe mental and physical health challenges because of an addiction to artificially lit technology devices. From the age of 13 to 16 I only slept between 4 to 5 hours each night. Due to this; I gained over 80lb in weight and began to experience anxiety, depression, suicidality and losses in self-confidence and self-esteem. I wasn't able to maintain college attendance or remain focused, concentrated and engaged enough to perform well during the most important years of my education. Over a 10-year journey that began uncovering the answers to my health challenges, I studied degrees in psychology, nutrition and Functional Medicine. Things improved... then I suffered from a period of personal and professional burnout in 2018. It meant that I lost touch with the magic of deep sleep once again and I found myself underperforming in all areas of life. It was the pivotal turning point where I dove deep into the science of sleep and learned about the emerging scientific fields of circadian biology, light, mind-body medicine, electromagnetism and quantum biology. Merging these studies with my prior education finally allowed me to optimise my sleep in a busy career and modern world. 🖥️ Now I work as an educator, coach, trainer and researcher, utilising my expertise to busy people how they can avoid the pitfalls and challenges of short-changing their sleep and recovery. 🌙 In essence, I help busy professionals perform at their best by mastering their sleep. 🤝🏻 In addition to my corporate work; I founded the Sleep Better Live Better Foundation with the sole aim of changing the trajectory of the future of sleep for young people globally.
