The 6 steps to avoid falling into "performance punishment" at work:

Being good at your job sometimes backfires.

You get more work, more responsibilities, but not necessarily more pay.

You get trapped in the 'performance punishment' trap.

Here's how it works:

↳ You exceed expectations
↳ Your boss gives you more work
↳ You complete it on time
↳ They think you can handle even more work
↳ You complete it on time
↳ Repeat (until you're burnt out)

The end result is you're overworked and underpaid.

Your work output slows down.

Your happiness at work decreases.

Your quality of life suffers.

So, how do you avoid 'performance punishment?'

1. Communicate your boundaries
2. Be upfront about your pay expectations
3. Negotiate workloads
4. Ask for support when necessary
5. Prioritize self-care
6. Know when to say "no"

While it can be tempting to say "yes" to every task, it's important to consider the impact it will have on your overall performance.

Saying "no" can actually improve your reputation and effectiveness.

Remember, it's not always about doing more.

It's about doing things the right way.

Focus on quality, effectiveness, and results.

Say "no" to unnecessary work.

Advocate for yourself.

And always prioritize self-care.

12 Reasons why you should always leave the office on time.

1. Work is a never-ending process, and your time is valuable.

2. Work is not your life.

Your job is just a part of who you are, not your entire identity.

Don't let work consume you.

3. You have other things to do.

Your life outside of work is just as important.

Spend time with family and friends, pursue hobbies, and take care of yourself.

4. Your productivity declines as you work longer hours.

Research shows that productivity declines after 8 hours of work, and sharply after 10-12 hours.

Working longer doesn't mean you're getting more done.

5. It's not good for your health.

Working long hours is associated with increased stress, sleep problems, and heart disease.

Don't sacrifice your health for work.

6. Long hours are not sustainable.

You might be able to work long hours for short periods, but it's not a sustainable way to work long-term.

Take care of yourself so you can keep working for years to come.

7. Leaving on time sets boundaries.

When you leave on time, you're setting a clear boundary between work and the rest of your life.

This shows that you respect your time and expect others to respect it too.

8. You'll be happier.

When you have time for the things you enjoy outside of work, you'll be happier overall.

Don't sacrifice your happiness for work.

9. You'll have better relationships.

When you have time for your family and friends, you'll have better relationships with them.

Don't sacrifice your relationships for work.

10. You'll have more energy.

When you have time to recharge outside of work, you'll have more energy and be more productive during work hours.

Don't sacrifice your energy for work.

11. You'll have better work-life balance.

When you leave work on time, you'll have a better work-life balance and be more fulfilled overall.

Don't sacrifice your work-life balance for work.

12. You'll be a better team member.

When you care for yourself outside of work, you'll be a better contributor to your team overall.

What you're punished for in school, is what rewards you in life. Here are 3 reasons why:

School teaches obedience.

But life doesn't reward obedience.

It rewards ingenuity and creativity.

So when you were punished for not following the rules in school, it might be a sign of potential.

Let's take some examples:

You can't sit still?

Great.

You might be a natural athlete or movement coach.

You don't follow rules?

Perfect.

Entrepreneurship is the right path for you.

Being too curious?

Awesome.

You might be a natural scientist, researcher, or philosopher.

You can't stop talking or asking questions?

Amazing.

You might be an excellent journalist, speaker, or writer.

Schools are structured for compliance.

Real life isn't.

Working for someone else can be limiting.

So, it's essential to cultivate that rebellious spirit.

School conditions you to:

• Follow orders
• Memorize information
• Stay in line

But that's not what the real world rewards.

The real world rewards people who:

• Challenge the status quo
• Innovate
• Take risks

Embracing your rebellious side has a lot of benefits:

• It helps you think critically
• It helps you communicate confidently
• It helps you take calculated risks
• It inspires others around you

The real world needs more creative, innovative thinkers.

If you want to be successful in the real world, you need to stop playing by the rules of school.

You need to:

• Take risks
• Question authority
• Think outside the box

The real world is full of opportunities for those who are willing to see them. Embrace your rebellious side and seize them.

7 methods to get paid what you're worth, not what you're valued at:

𝟭) Focus on the value you're delivering, NOT the time you're spending on the task.

If you're delivering impact & ROI, you should be compensated for that.

Be sure to communicate that value to your employer/client.

𝟮) Price your work based on your skill level & expertise.

If you're more experienced, you deserve to be paid more.

Calculate your worth and set your prices according to your skill set.

𝟯) Don't accept projects that don't align with your worth.

If you're taking on a project for the sake of the paycheck, you're not valuing yourself.

Choose projects that align with your expertise & values.

𝟰) Negotiate your salary or freelance fees.

Don't settle for less.

Do your research, demonstrate your value, and negotiate based on market rates & your skill set.

𝟱) Create passive income streams.

Don't let your income be limited to your hourly rate.

Create content, write an ebook, start a business, invest in stocks, or real estate.

Create multiple streams of income.

𝟲) Don't accept being underpaid based on your past salary.

If you were underpaid at your previous job, it shouldn't affect your current salary negotiations.

Demonstrate your value and negotiate based on market rates.

𝟳) Learn to market yourself.

Be confident in your skills and value.

Market yourself in a professional manner and be sure to showcase your expertise.

This person has an extensive network.

They know someone who knows someone in every industry.

Need help with something specific?

They have a contact they can put you in touch with.

Never underestimate the power of a connector.

This person doesn't say much, but they get things done.

They are the go-to person for their boss, teammates, and clients.

They are reliable, efficient, and they follow through on their promises.

This person is always looking to improve.

They are constantly reading, attending classes, and seeking feedback.

This person is skilled in managing relationships.

This person sees things differently.

7 signs you're working in a "burnout culture" and why you should reconsider:

1. Minimal breaks

Skipping meals, no time for bathroom breaks, and no time for vacations.

When you're back-to-back on work, it's easy to lose track of time.

This cycle can lead to headaches, fatigue, and chronic stress.

2. Long work hours

Staying late every day, weekends, and holidays.

While some people thrive with long hours, it's doubtful that you can be focused and productive all the time.

Eventually, you'll notice that you're not getting much done.

3. Zero appreciation

You crave recognition for your hard work.

It's demotivating to feel like your work is not valued.

No recognition is like a career poison where you lose hope in your job.

4. Lack of boundaries

Do you always say yes to additional work?

Can't say no to one client, so now everyone wants a piece of you?

Burnout starts with this pattern of never-ending work requests and feeling like you can't do something else.
