I was a contract digital producer (at Victoria Real, now part of Endemol), I worked alongside a production team, producing flash games with database connectivity for Camelot and the National Lottery working with a team of designers, animators, developers and QA professionals.

John Brown Media

I was a contract web producer (at Citrus Publishing, now part of John Brown). I helped to design and launch the UKs first pet insurance website and support the developers with the backend as well as creating the UI and functional forms. I also led the design of digitising magazines. I was tasked of extracting content from Nationwide, Ford and Huggies print magazines and produced interactive microsites using HTML and Flash. I worked heavily with the magazines editors, backend developers, art directors and project managers to make print content engaging and interactive.

In the late 90s, Fortune City was one of the pioneers of Web Publishing for all competing with Geocities and Tripod. I supported and educated communities across the world on best practice web design, how to use the template engine and managing the servers to ensure that harmful material was removed.

In the early days of the web and via the Runway Accelerator I was working as a visual communication designer. I produced desktop software and websites that contained graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for a US/Israeli firm that provides online shoppers with a universal and user controlled shopping cart, which allows comparison, information management and one click purchasing.

Danny Bluestone is the CEO & Founder of Cyber-Duck, a UK based digital transformation agency fusing Service Design and User Experience (UX) with high pedigree Laravel and Drupal open source Web technology developing the worlds most accessible Web Applications and Web Portals for governments and bluechips alike. The agency started in 2005 and has grown organically to include clients like Bosch, Compare The Market, The Bank of England, The European Central Bank, Mitsubishi Electric, The British Government and Cancer Research. The team includes Designers, Product / Project Managers, Accessibility Specialists, Web Developers, DevOps Engineers and Technical SEO specialists as well as Data Analysts. With over 105 people the team is highly diverse. Danny was an entrepreneur finalist at the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards entrepreneur of the year. Danny spoke at SXSW in Austin Texas about trust in digital and what brands and governments to build trust through their products and services. He also is a keen advocate of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data transformation and why ethics in AI is so important. Danny holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Creative Technology (AKA Design for Interactive Media) from Middlesex University, London.

It is time to say farewell... not literally, but to my time founding and building Cyber-Duck for 20+ years and then selling it to CACI, a NASDAQ listed organisation Nov 2023. In this post, I salute the future, with a nod towards our heritage.

As of Nov 2025, I handed over the keys and have left CACI. I write this with mixed emotions, an immense sense of pride that we and our clients achieved and how we made the Web more Accessible, Inclusive and Technologically advanced. When we sold Cyber-Duck, it became the UK’s largest independent Digital Transformation Agency with no external investors - completely bootstrapped having generated over £60m since 2010.

When I sold Cyber-Duck to CACI two years ago, I was tasked at bringing Cyber-Duck to help bolster CACI’s agency capabilities within a 2 year period. Both business complimented each other. My team brought in the UX, Service Design, UI and Web Technology capabilities and CACI brought in the CX, Data Science, Personalisation and Data Platforms capabilities that we lacked - they also had the scale which we needed. It was a marriage made in heaven and the agency business has grown from my original team if 110 people to about 300 in these few years after combining CACI human resource and growing the new team by a further 40% due to the evolving markets. Within the last 3 years we gradually introduced AI in a highly responsible way and was delighted to work with senior leadership at CACI on introducing a generative AI strategy and business wide propositions.

As I leave the most enjoyable part of running a business for 20+ years was the 390 or so people I hired over the years and how they became top of their game - I am still in touch with many of my old colleagues and many have become good friends. My philosophy was always a flat hierarchy and empowerment of everyone from the intern to the contractors - to yield a sense of ownership, belonging, advancement, no bullshit and zero politics. This was so we could move mountains, design the most amazing interfaces and content and experiment with the latest software and engineering methods.

I wanted to recap some of my great moments and lessons that I shared with my team over the years.
