Provided the vision along with the architectural, engineering and data science leadership to bring the first of its kind clinical decision support tool, Decision IQ, to the veterinary industry.

Formed a new data science team, set strategy, roadmap and budget.
Led a team of data scientists and advanced data analysts focused on veterinary medical data.
Led the development of accurate disease prediction algorithms.
Led the design, development of a first in the industry clinical decision support system supporting veterinarians throughout the decision making process. Combined rules-based features with AI/ML based features leveraging domain knowledge and existing EMR data.
Performed research into data science techniques as applied to animal health record data.
Created a hierarchical multi-label classification algorithm using R, Java and H2O.ai. Domain knowledge and machine learning were combined using an ontology to define the hierarchy and provide the metadata for feature extraction and model hyperparameters. I then led the implementation of the algorithm inside a big data system consisting of 4+ billion records.
Led the development of tools for data annotation to produce labeled training data for machine learning model building and led several data annotation projects to create labeled data.
Led the visioning and prototyping of predictive diagnostics algorithms and other clinical decision support tools.
Led the development and implementation of a patient matching algorithm to match patient records between disparate databases
Designed and oversaw the implementation of specialized tools for external analysts to easily access and perform advanced analytics on veterinary EMR data
Built prototypes for evaluating various natural language processing tools for veterinary medical notes

Associate Fellow, Data Science

Led the development of a new data processing pipeline from the ground up utilizing a real-time distributed architecture. Throughout the development of the system I was manager, visionary, programmer and project manager for a team of Java engineers, testers and devops. Throughout the project we innovated using cutting-edge technologies including Hadoop, HBase and the Storm real-time distributed processing system. The entire system was built and deployed on top of Amazon Web Services infrastructure. 
Designed and led the development of a 50+ terabyte scale clinical data warehouse for electronic medical record data utilizing Hadoop as the core storage and batch query tool. 
Other supporting tools include Spark, Storm, HBase, RabbitMQ, Spring Batch, Cascalog, Cascading. 
Established specialized machine learning and big data techniques for standardization of medical record terms and descriptions.

Enterprise Architect/Data Scientist - Data R&D/Data Science

Managed a team of 10 software developers and 7 support personnel in development and support of a veterinary practice information management system. 
Managed a yearly budget of $2.5 million consistently on budget year after year. Accomplished 2 major releases and 6 service packs per year within 10% project accuracy. 
Responsible for design and construction of application with 2 million+ lines of code written in Powerbuilder, Java, C, and C++. 
Responsible for development of tools for use in conversion of customer data from competitive applications. 
Created a process to separate new product development from current product support resulting in better predictability and quality of service packs and new releases. 
Worked with business leaders to define and plan new software features and schedules. 
Successfully converted development processes from waterfall to agile/scrum methodology.

Software Development Manager

Managed a team of 6 IT Technicians and software developers maintaining up to 300 workstations, 55 servers, 3 external VPN and WAN connections, 3 different sites and a telecommunications sytem consisting of 250 extensions

Infrastructure consisted of a heterogeneous environment including Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware, Linux, SCO Unix all seamlessly interconnected on the desktop.

Planned and successfully executed the migration from a predominently Novell Netware Directory Services environment to Microsoft Windows Domain and later to Active Directory.

Managed a yearly budget of $2 million consistently on budget year after year.

Planned and executed the wiring and infrastructure in a newly constructed building as well as the move into the new building with little business impact.

Oversaw the migration of the telecommunications sytem from Mitel to Lucent with minimal business disruption.

Introduced Linux as a server operating system to the company. There are now at least 20 Linux servers hosting many critical business functions.

Designed, built and maintained custom integration engine connecting SAP R/3 system to Firstwave CRM system.

Designed, configured and maintained network and system monitoring application using Nagios, MRTG and Cricket tools including numerous customizations.

Oversaw the development of web based applications for use in customer and business management including a customer knowlegebase system

Managed a team of 10 technicians responsible for creation and maintenance of a new web based application infrastructure.

Designed and implemented a high availability web application infrastructure which was initially hosted by a third party.

Planned and executed a successful migration of a high availability web application infrastructure from a third party hosting service in New York to self hosting onsite with no downtime.

Prior to starting Dedekind Cut Labs Consulting, I was a Director Fellow of Data Science at IDEXX, where I led the vision and development of the first of its kind clinical decision support tool, Decision IQ, for veterinarians. I also formed and managed a data science team that focused on veterinary medical data and created accurate disease prediction algorithms. I am passionate about developing products and tools that support the practice of veterinary medicine using AI, mathematics, software engineering, and turning data into business value.
