Like many others, I was impacted by a layoff in October 2023 due to our US offices being restructured. I'm actively seeking my next opportunity.  While I've been fortunate to secure interviews (2-5 per week!), many roles are contract-based and fall through due to high competition, evolving requirements, or budget constraints. Is that all?

It is not easy to arrive at that question (especially when you think that you are still way back at the end of the queue).

Generally, I appreciate jumping the queue. In this instance, the queue oddly disappeared. It's like reading a page-turner in the corner of the library and when you're finished, you notice that the library is dark and they locked you in. Well, in this instance, I have a few weeks to months left, but nothing is sure. 

But one thing that keeps bugging me, is - how do I make sure that my framework and knowledge is not lost?

I wanted to write a book, but was too distracted to write and thought that if I don't write, I get more time to finish the job. 

But I have so much material and even courses that I could share with someone who could use my knowledge for their business.

What do you think I should do to pass on my knowledge and materials?

Cancer doesn't play by the rules, and I don't see why I should. So, what do you suggest is the best way to kick-start someone else with my knowledge?

Who knew that when this image was taken in February, that not even 2 months later, my outlook has gone from seeing my children graduate, get married, maybe have little ones, and grow old together with my husband - to piling through the paperwork and processes for hospice and assisted dying?

But one very big point remains: Have you lived with purpose?

My 3 purpose words are "listen - enlighten - empower" - and that's what I want to do to the end - including sharing my knowledge & materials with others.

Ever have a connection disappear?

Usually there is no announcement, just an abrupt end to participation.

But what if you wake up and realize that person is you?

That person is me.

Feeling guilty is energy wasted. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a regular here, but for now, and possibly not for too long, I'm going to put my personal profile happily on leave.

There is beauty in truth and truth in beauty

Since Keats first penned such thoughts critics have argued whether he was speaking the truth or not.

There are mathematicians who see beauty in math

I was never attuned to math nor to art while at school.

Yet I now compose paintings according to the Fibonacci sequence and am always looking for the truth in art.

One of the most important questions creators ask ourselves is why are we here? Often followed by - how do I make money here?

Yet I think it is more valuable to ask ourselves if we are searching for truth. For if you find truth that is something beautiful and mathematical.

There's a lot of talk about self-care on LinkedIn... maybe too much talk...

Where I live I can see the ultimate self-care in action right now

The trees in my neighborhood are starting to suck the goodness out of their own leaves back into themselves. They are storing up that goodness to last them through the winter months. 

Those leaves will soon drop to act as both weed suppressant and compost around the tree's roots (unless I get to them first and spread them around my garden).

A tree has a regular program of caring for itself - it knows when to stop growing and how best to prepare for rest.

Most people don't have a program of self-care they even feed on the pseudo compost of sayings like "If you're not growing you're dying" "You only are a failure when you stop."

The way humans think is not in harmony with what we observe in nature - though a wise book once said "To everything there is a season..."

When we look back on our lives we will likely see that there were seasons - times when we were as full of life and promise as Spring - as strong as an endless Summer - and yet other times when things did not work out as we planned and opportunities begun to dry up.

So what is self-care?

When a tree sheds its leaves it means the tree spends less energy through winter. It conserves moisture within the trunk and keeps it from drying out. It allows wind to blow through the branches, putting less strain on the tree.

Maybe the key to us having less strain and having more energy is in shedding our leaves. Letting go is not failing - it is what nature does so it can come back again...

Don't be afraid of quitting... everything has a season.

A couple of weekends ago my wife and I went to a local kite festival at the beach - apart from the kites the best thing was seeing all the families together and a huge turnout from our local Indian community who were making a day of it.

So if you ever wondered what life is like in New Zealand it is pretty chill - we like listening to pipes and flying kites 

And just so Salima Noorani knows there were no reported loss of life at this event 🤗

Last week I visited a friend in hospice care - on a wall of her small room was this picture. I had painted it a few years ago when I was just learning how to paint and she really liked it. So I had it framed and gave it to her.

Two days after seeing her, she passed.

We live but for a moment and often the ending is unpleasant.

I've done some pretty impressive transformation projects over the years - pulled off some business miracles - and yet they pale compare to giving someone love with an amateur painting of a little bird.

Mozart and Van Gogh were artistic geniuses and yet they saw what really mattered in life. Its not our minds its our hearts.

Life is so fragile and gone before we know it.

May your legacy live on in the hearts of others.

Are you a creator here with a goal of doing business? 

Are you tired of people scrolling past your posts and not engaging?

Are you willing to understand basic math in order to fix this?

We'll start with engagement rates as calculated by Google. Google has calculated 96.25% people will not engage with an advert that is specifically targeted at them.

So even though the perfect pitch is made only 3.75% will click.

➡️ This is because only 3% of people at any given time are in the buy now market.

Got that - if you have 100 followers you should expect 3 to either react or comment on your post. If you have 1000 you should expect 30 reactions or comments. 

Is this math right for social media? Yes - the average engagement rate on social media is 1.5 to 3%.

Anyone with less than 1.5% engagement rate needs to rethink the time and effort they are putting in here.

Now are you ready to get your math mind imploded?

More followers does not equal more engagement.

In fact the more followers you have on social media the lower the average engagement rate is - unless you pay for PODS or otherwise buy followers.

So what can you do to increase engagement rates?

1. Remove inactive and uninterested followers - this is basic math - your credibility comes from engagement not follower count.

2. Respond - 51% of people surveyed on social media find a brand memorable if they are responded to 

3. Create content that resonates with others - stop serving up stale stuff

4. Stop accepting connection requests from people who are not engaging with you in the first place - you get nothing of value from a non-interested connection 

Otherwise carry on with believing the fantasy that the more followers you have the better your network will be.

The biggest deal I’ve ever sold? $26,516,3100.00 ARR. 

How did it come about? 

We will get to that, but I can firstly tell you, it DIDN’T come from ; 

-> hard selling the meeting at any cost + providing cash incentives + amazon or pre loaded card vouchers 
-> Smiling and dialling
-> Being blind to how calculate annual contract value + Formal Bids are calculated and provided 


It DID come from the following breakdown ; 

Cataloguing the market 

> Knowing who they were with
> What they liked 
> What they didn’t
> What they wished they could change 
> Their biggest account level problem
> Understanding their annual contract value and all the touch points
> Building them a business case on financial modelling of why, and what it gets them, where it takes them. 
> Permission to come back later 

This enabled me to swoop in with the recipe for success + perfect timing. 

So HOW did I undertake this. 

>Catalogued the market 
>Permission based creative - Not here to sell you anything but know you have this problem, would you like to see data on who else has solved that and how they did it. 
>If it makes sense after viewing it, let’s have a further discussion. 
> Understanding their contract value, enables clarity around will this pass credit. 
> Is it worth our time for legal clauses? 
> Bedding down the comms plan early, shows if they are a likely fit or a churn and burn at Customer Success. 

Getting these elements right, means you can conduct yourself in a more commercially viable manner. 
Without doing this, you are likely flying blind and putting yourself in the areas of unknown, and shiny logo's at all cost. (Without knowing the costs)

For those that have recognised, the break down of what we are actually doing here is as follows. 

>Recipe for success = Educational Content + Known Objections - Demand Piece 
> Coupling with Cataloguing the market, you know when to strike with precision. 
> Understanding commercial aspects, you know if it actually is viable for your business and your current model to do business. 
> End to End service delivery - that ive been banging on about for the past 4+ years


So what we are really doing here is correcting a broken commercial model, to enable you to do more with less, and make it easier to win.

And let me tell you.... 

It's been a game-changer... 😱

You see, in the past, I've had my fair share of struggles with clients.

🤢Some would take my work and disappear without a trace... 

🤢While others would drag their feet when it came to payment...

Leaving me in a tight spot financially...

Started having trust issues!

But since I made the switch to upfront payments..

Everything has turned around. 

Not only am I getting paid for my hard work upfront,

 I'm also avoiding all the stress and uncertainty that used to come with waiting for payment. 

And I'm working more sincerely...
