DUTIES:

As Public Affairs Specialist, I lead content development, planning, strategy, and administration of external and internal agency communications. This includes organizing and facilitating workgroups to develop scripts and talking points for executives, monthly information packages, newsletter articles, social media content, and blog posts for dissemination to the public, advocate organizations, and stakeholder groups. As a senior team member, I also train and onboard new employees.

As the Social Security Blog Content Lead, I am responsible for coordinating Commissioner-level approval for each article published. This includes content planning and strategy, creating social media posts, and editing and proofreading each article. I also work closely with our external affairs team to facilitate the publication of guest blog articles from advocate and third party organizations. This allowed us to publish highly relevant, SEO-friendly authoritative content that increased blog sessions by 68% and my Social Security subscribers by 15%. It also generated 70% of blog traffic.

RECENT AWARDS:

Exemplary Contribution or Service Award (July 2023): For exemplary contribution as Project Manager and Writer for the implementation and release of the SSA Talks audio series and SSA Times products. Also, due to my speaking ability, I was selected as the narrator to introduce and conclude each SSA Talks episode.

Associate Commissioner’s Team Award (June 2023): For outstanding contribution and support for the release of Digital Identity products.

Commissioner’s Honor Award (May 2023): For renewed LGBTQIA+ community engagement on priority policy initiatives, including implementing the Ely-Thornton agreement and self-attestation of sex designation in the enumeration process.

Deputy Commissioner’s Team Award (May 2023): For expanding partnerships with external groups to raise awareness of Social Security and other government imposter scams.

DUTIES:

As Public Affairs Detailee, I wrote, researched, and edited internal and external communications products, including the Inspector General’s messages for the Semi-Annual Report to Congress and IG Awards Ceremony, media inquiries, and email communications to OIG managers. I also made substantial contributions to the OIG Weekly Wrap, an employee newsletter, including crafting employee profiles, offering communications best practices, and highlighting personal development techniques.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

My efforts as Public Affairs Detailee directly led to my promotion to a Public Affairs Specialist (GS-1035-13) with Social Security.

Received a 2020 OIG Award (September 2020) in recognition of my contributions SSA OIG’s Office of Communications. 

Reached out to and networked with other OIGs to gather information on their social media use. This included researching and analyzing their current social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Provided feedback to my supervisor for consideration and made recommendations for how SSA OIG could better use social media for awareness and engagement.

Pitched and launched an internal video series called Ask The Experts, where I conducted Zoom-recorded interviews with subject matter experts at SSA OIG.

Pitched and launched, FEDucation, featuring micro trainings on SSA content to educate OIG employees on technical and human resource related offerings at the agency for their own personal and professional development.
 
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I initiated the COVID-19 Round-up for the OIG Weekly Wrap, our employee newsletter. This showcased top stories surrounding the pandemic and educated our employees on the response of other government agencies and organizations.

DUTIES:

As Auditor, I led and conducted performance and contract audits focused on Social Security’s systems and programs. This included sample testing, data reliability, work paper preparation, research, interviewing – and ensuring compliance with Government Accountability Office standards. 

I used data mining technology to work extensively with sample populations and made formal presentations to management on status of audits in progress. I also prepared audit reports in plain language citing our findings and results. As part of this role, I received training on fraud, project management, emotional intelligence, and interviewing skills.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Received a 2014 Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) Award for Excellence in recognition of my contributions for an audit conducted on improper Social Security number (SSN) use. 

Received a 2010 Inspector General’s Award in recognition of my outstanding work the previous year.

Received a 2010 Exemplary Contribution or Service Award in recognition of my support for our team members.
