My direct areas of responsibility require that I manage and participate in the conception, creation, and development of enterprise software solutions and web services in the areas of Enterprise IT management, Database, Storage, organization, filtering and retrieval in multi (n-tiered) and multi-platform (Linux, Win32/64, UNIX, Solaris, Web) Environments. My responsibilities are as an Architect and Lead Developer in producing an n-tier multi-platform network security monitoring and enforcement suite of software products.  I am responsible to research and identify the best technologies to incorporate in the architecture including Jakarta Tomcat, Struts, and Tag Libraries, on Window IIS and Apache running on Windows, Linux, and NetWare, Java Beans, JSP, and C/C++.  I also architected and developed the global ODBC database registry and schema used to manage and coordinate each component in the n-tier system.  To facilitate both secure communications between each component as well as to support multiple and simultaneous user and component sessions, I developed a multi-threaded java communications management layer that could be deployed using either Windows Sockets or HTTP/HTTPS protocols.  In addition, while architecting and developing the Web based management console for this system, I created a patent-able method using HTTP/Tomcat sessions to control web-based User Interface Wizards across multiple HTTP requests.  Using XML and XSLT technologies, I architected and oversaw the development of a platform independent communications protocol to be used by each agent and service in the system. My responsibilities also included oversight and management of the development these technologies with the full development team.

Senior Software Engineer, Team Lead and Project Architect

My responsibilities were to work with outside partners like IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle and many others to first architect and then to oversee the development of the integration between NextPage’s electronic data content publishing and managing tools and the partner’s data store products – like Lotus Notes, SQL Server, Direct File system data, and XML databases, etc.  I also architected and developed a patent-able method, using Web Services, SOAP based implementation in C/C++ and Java, to integrate the publishing of NextPage’s Content Networking product directly into the Windows desktop.  My responsibilities were to lead in these assignments, interacting directly with both the technical and non-technical contacts at the partner companies, to architect the solution, obtain consensus with the partner, and then oversee and participate in the development and deployment of the solution.

As a founding member of the engineering team, my responsibilities also included management and oversight of the development, testing and IS organizations.  The product, as originally acquired by the company upon its founding, had previously failed to meet all acceptable performance and stability criteria and was not deploy-able in its current state.  I first analyzed the product and then re-architected and developed replacement modules and components of the web-based client/server genealogy software.  Using an applet embedded within the HTML page which was architected and developed to allow for scrolling and zooming in-out, the main performance issue, trying to view 100s and even thousands of genealogy records in a single heritage line was solved.  I also architected and developed a patent-able priority UI threading model to allow the data to be filled in by the remote server while working on/viewing the data already received.

Development Manager:  My responsibilities were to oversee the technical architecture and future direction of the products being developed by the teams I managed as well as worked in direct cooperation with product management teams to determine the feature-set and successful future directions of the products.  Using processes like Contextual Inquiry, I worked directly with product management and selected customers to build the pre-technical vision of future products and versions.  I was directly responsible for recruiting and hiring within the teams under my responsibility, holding technical reviews and performance reviews on all team members, and managing Compensation and Incentive bonus programs to maintain and even accelerate the development delivery schedules.  In addition, I successfully worked with outside partners, and potential partners, to assess the technical requirements for integration of their technology into ours, and successfully managed both the actual technical integration as well as authored the technical portion of the contract for the Check2000 integration with ZENWorks.

Software Enginer (Sr.) : My responsibilities included many assignments to architect and develop software products and/or components.  These included key development positions with ZENWorks, Workstation Manager, NetWare for Windows, Netware Firmware, NetWare Lite and Personal NetWare, several GUI Administration tools, and others.  With each of these assignments, I used a wide variety of skills and knowledge including C/C++, Assembly, and Java spanning the range of platforms in the Windows family as well as NLM development for NetWare.  My ability to quickly incorporate both existing and new technologies and methodologies, as well as to create new technologies, methodologies, solutions and applications, often with patentable results, made team and project leaderships a staple of my career.

Development Manager - Software Engineering (Sr.) & Architecture

Architected and developed a remote application graphical debugging tool to accelerate the development of educational software being built on a proprietary OS and API.  Developed the custom network connectivity between the machine running the Application and the machine running the debugger.  Architected and developed the special Database engine and schema used to provide the data-driven portion of these applications.  I also contributed at the architectural level to the development of the graphical animation libraries used to build the educational game-like applications.
