I started my software career debugging app problems and deploying new apps and making it run. This type of work put me in a sweet spot between product development teams and IT or support operations teams, so I had a lot of opportunities to contribute to projects in both arenas. That career path was naturally destined towards site reliability and I became passionate about SRE practices in 2018. The value I bring to engineering teams is that I have strong strategic visions, I'm organized and my passion positively influences others towards achieving those visions. Because I have that engineering background I can communicate effectively with engineers but my biggest contributions are connecting the value of engineering work with company success and user experience. I have held unofficial titles like Product Owner, Operations Leader, project manager, DevOps in roles that blend the technical work needed to keep apps running with the people engineering necessary to energize technical work in a cohesive direction. I am passionate about Operational Excellence in Software Engineering – using data indicators for balancing reliability work and using maturity modeling to move organizations from Reactive to Responsive to Proactive to Preventative. I collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, Architecture, Delivery and InfoSec teams to ruthlessly prioritize, create roadmaps and drive high ROI. Most of my career has been in people management or leadership roles and my leadership philosophies are centered around viewing people as intellectual assets, breaking the traditional working norms, building my success through the success of those around me, and leaning into people's nuances over correcting their "faults".
