Advisors keep asking me about Perplexity's new AI browser, Comet. So I spent hours reviewing what you actually agree to when you sign up.

I went through the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. I also listened to CEO Aravind Srinivas in podcast interviews and reviewed independent security research.

Here are a few things that stood out:

Srinivas was candid about why Perplexity built a browser. In a recent interview, he said: "We want to get data even outside the app to better understand you. What are the things you're buying? Which hotels are you going to? Which restaurants? What are you spending time browsing? We plan to use all the context to build a better user profile."

What that means is that Comet collects your complete browsing history and page content, search queries, website cookies, downloads, geolocation data, microphone and camera access, connected services like Gmail and Calendar, plus passwords, payment methods, and bookmarks.

Your Personal Search data trains their AI models. Your information gets shared with unspecified "vendors" for "generative AI and content creation."

On top of that, two research security teams have already uncovered systems vulnerabilities.

- LayerX found a "CometJacking" attack where one malicious link can steal Gmail and calendar data.
- Brave's team discovered that traditional web security protections don't work when AI operates with your full privileges across logged-in sites.

All of which brings us to the pivotal question: What lives on your browser as a financial advisor? Client names. Account details. Investment strategies. Confidential emails. Calendar notes. Proprietary spreadsheets.

Every page you visit, every document you access, every email you read could feed an AI model being trained on external servers.

Don't get me wrong. I use AI tools every day. They're powerful, often invaluable.

But when such a critical AI product comes to market, it's worth asking: What I am giving up (and what risks I am running with client data) to get access?
