A software developer with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for learning. I enjoy building complex systems, and teaching myself new technologies along the way. I became fascinated with technology early in life. My second grade teacher set up a small closet with bean bags, educational toys and an Apple II. I was known to monopolize the only computer in our classroom, spending hours playing Number Crunchers or traveling the Oregon Trail. I worked the computer lab in middle school helping students and teachers troubleshoot problems and install software. Computers became an integral part of my life when my grandparents bought me my own personal computer in 9th grade. As the web was blossoming, I stopped paying attention to video games and began my quest to figure out "how this stuff works". In high school I led a team to the International Science Fair, developing software that taught children about the dangers of skin cancer. We won awards at the regional, state, and international level. I taught myself HTML, Perl, and started tinkering with this cool new server side web development framework, at the time called "Personal Home Page Tools". I interned at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory and was given a part time position developing web applications using Perl and PHP/FI. Once in college I began developing websites as a freelancer and found a job with a telecommunications shop where I was employed for over 22 years. I worked my way up from a part time web developer, to a lead developer, to the manager of their software development department. Along the way, I founded and operated an online cigar shop which gave me valuable insights into how to run a business. Today I am a Senior Software developer with the Platform Services Team at Recharge Payments. I enjoy working with our event bus - the conduit that handles data from various sources, processes it, and passes it on to both internal and external systems.
