How to get your first client on LinkedIn, from scratch.

(What I wish someone told me earlier)

Because I know what most people will tell you.

"Just start posting."
"Action creates momentum."

And look, I get why they say that.

But when you're starting from scratch? That advice is incomplete.

Because if you don’t know what you’re doing, 
Consistency only takes you in the wrong direction, faster.

So if you’re starting now, or restarting, do it right.

Here’s what I’d do if I was starting from zero today:

👉 Step 1 → Deep research.

Find out who my ideal client actually is.

- What keeps them up at night?
- What are they actively trying to solve?
- What words do they use to describe their pain?

Go lurk in comment sections.
Read testimonials of people who’ve worked with your competitors.

Study their language like your business depends on it, because it does.

👉 Step 2 → Post with purpose.

The goal isn’t to go viral.

The goal is for my dream client to scroll, stop, and say:
“Wait... that LinkedIn post was written specifically for me.”

So start posting. 5x a week minimum. 2x a day if you’re bold.
Because frequency builds familiarity. And familiarity builds trust.

And trust builds pipeline.

👉 Step 3 → Build an ICP list like a sniper. Not a machine gun.

Don't go on Sales Nav and blast 5000 random connection requests.
Build a lead list with intention. 200-300 high-fit ICPs.

Check if they’re active. See if they’re decision-makers.

Then, start connecting.

👉 Step 4 → Start my outreach.

Don’t overthink it. Just be human.

Follow people like Steph Crucio.

Test, tweak, and test again.

You’re not trying to sell in the first message.
You’re trying to start a conversation.

That’s it.

This is what most people ignore.They post and disappear.

- Leave thoughtful takes on your ICP’s content.
- Show up for others and they’ll show up for you.

3. Outcome-led:

👉 Step 2: If it goes silent

Here’s how I take back control:

1. Pivot: “Noticed you’re pretty active on LinkedIn. Is it helping with leads?”
2. Dig: “Has that been a challenge for long?”
3. Reset: “Happy to send over a couple of tailored questions to make sure I don’t waste your time, sound good?”

Most people wing their DMs.

LinkedIn has changed. A lot.

Here are a few things I’ve noticed 👇

1. Inbound is tougher.

Getting leads now isn’t as easy as before, not because LinkedIn stopped working, but because people are still using the 2024 playbook. Ever since I stopped posting personal pictures and started writing authentic stories, the right people actually started conversations. Those conversations turn into leads. Every single time.

2. Share more social proof.

I see a lot of people positioning themselves as “experts,” but very few actually showing proof. If you’re a freelancer, this is the biggest differentiator right now. Show results. Show screenshots. Show messages. Show what worked.
That’s what makes people trust you.

3. People care more about your process than your payouts.

I’ve don't share “I made $10k this month” type of wins. Instead, I talk about how I’m building my business, what’s working, what’s breaking, what I’m learning. And that’s what people relate to. It’s real.

4. Be funny sometimes.

Don’t try to sound like a know-it-all. The best connections I’ve made recently came from casual DMs, not perfectly written, hyper-professional ones. People can smell “AI tone” from a mile away. Write like a human, and you’ll connect like one.

Two updates today: both exciting, in very different ways.

First, my ads are finally running.

It’s early, so this stage is all about collecting data, seeing what performs, what doesn’t. But the process itself was a lot of fun. Writing scripts, shooting, sending everything to my editor, and getting the final cuts back. These five creatives are just the beginning. The first five of many. But it feels great to be past the “getting started” phase and into the “it’s live” phase.

Second: something more personal. I’ve started running.

Last time I ran was back in 11th grade. I quit then because I wasn’t good at it (a pattern I’ve been trying to change). This time, with some motivation from my partner, who just finished a half marathon, I’m staying with it. I’m nowhere near that level yet, but I’ve gone from one kilometer to three, and that feels like progress worth celebrating.

Going on a solo run today. Excited to see how far I get.

Why you should NOT build a personal brand:

Let’s be honest...

Posting on LinkedIn is overrated.

Who needs visibility, credibility, or inbound leads when you can stay comfortably invisible in the shadows, right?

Here’s why you should definitely not build a personal brand:

1. You don’t need a network. You already have your 37 college friends who occasionally like your posts about company anniversaries. That’s enough.

2. Your target audience founders, investors, operators, literally everyone who can accelerate your career is all here. Which is exactly why you should not show up. Let them find you telepathically.

3. You don’t want to actually understand business. Writing forces you to think clearly about what works, what doesn’t, and what you believe in. Sounds exhausting. Better to just scroll.

4. You definitely don’t want opportunities. Speaking gigs, partnerships, investors sliding into DMs… what a nightmare.

5. And most importantly, people might start recognizing you at conferences. Imagine the horror of someone saying, “Hey, I saw your post!”

So yeah. Don’t post. Stay mysterious.

The world loves a secret founder nobody’s ever heard of.

Currently in the middle of writing scripts for my first five ad creatives.

Bought a course to learn ads. 

But turns out, it skips over one tiny detail: the API setup part 😅

So today’s goal → figure out how to set it all up.

(If you’ve done that before, I’d love some tips, especially around setting up API endpoints on Facebook Ads Manager. I’m apparently entering “developer” territory now.)

Outside of that, things are moving fast...

1. One client (sales training team execs) booked 2 calls yesterday
2. Third (AI systems consultant) booked a 4 this week
3. Another (career coach) booked 5 calls last week

Plus, the new hire is absolutely crushing it.

And calls are coming in regularly.

Feels like the kind of week where everything is building momentum at once, learning curve and all.
