I work with executives who track everything.

Revenue. Margins. KPIs. Board meetings that run like clockwork.

Yet when it comes to their health, most are operating on guesswork.

I have yet to meet an executive who tracks their health with the same discipline they apply to their business.

Not because they do not care.

Because they are busy.

Because the business feels more urgent.

Because pushing through became the default.

Caffeine handles the low energy.

A drink handles the stress.

Poor sleep becomes just how it is now.

And nobody really notices the decline because it happens slowly.

Until a health scare forces the conversation. Or the doctor says something that does not go away.

The research on high performers and longevity keeps pointing to the same seven markers.

Fasting insulin.

Triglycerides and HDL.

hs-CRP.

ApoB.

Hemoglobin A1c.

Thyroid function.

Hormones.

These tell you what is actually happening beneath the surface. Metabolic health, heart risk, inflammation, recovery capacity, and whether your body can sustain what you are asking of it.

Most of the people I work with have never had anyone explain what those numbers mean for their performance. Not once. Not in a clear, practical way.

You would not run a company without reviewing the numbers that matter.

Yet most people are running their body completely blind.

If you want to still be performing at your best ten or fifteen years from now, this is where you start.

Your health is not separate from your performance.

It is your performance.

Do these thoughts ever cross your mind?

• If I can’t give this 100%, it won’t work.
• I’m overwhelmed. I’ll restart when things calm down.
• If I can’t do it perfectly, why bother?

When you commit to upgrading your body, does it feel like you’re either fully dialed in or completely off?

No middle ground.

That’s all-or-nothing thinking.

And it quietly destroys consistency.

It often starts well.

Structure is tight.
Training is scheduled.
Nutrition is deliberate.

You feel in control.

Then business intensifies.

New demands. Travel. Late nights. Pressure builds.

And the internal narrative becomes:

“I can’t execute this properly right now. I’ll restart when things stabilise.”

But your calendar will never stabilise.

Your business will not slow down so you can prioritise your body.

If your health depends on ideal conditions, it will always collapse under real ones.

The solution isn’t perfection.

It’s progression.

Instead of five sessions, complete two.
Instead of flawless execution, protect non-negotiables.
Instead of intensity, preserve structure.

Minimum standards outperform bursts of motivation.

You don’t lose momentum because of one imperfect week.

You lose momentum because you interpret imperfection as failure.

Health isn’t built in ideal seasons.
It’s built in demanding ones.

I've been travelling for the past five days. And it reminded me of something I see regularly with the executives and business owners I work with.

My routine looked nothing like it normally does.

Unfamiliar beds. More meals out. Time in airports. All the usual signals your body relies on, gone.

After a few days, my knee started playing up. I felt more bloated than usual. Energy dipped.

Nothing dramatic. But noticeable.

The professionals I work with tend to experience something similar, just in different ways.

Digestion becomes unpredictable.

Sleep gets worse in unfamiliar rooms, which ripples into energy and recovery for days afterward.

Some hold more water, feel more inflamed, or notice their thinking slow down.

It is rarely one thing.

Usually several variables shift at once. Sleep, food, hydration, schedule. And before long, you are not feeling like yourself.

Most assume this is simply the cost of travelling.

A lot of it isn't.

When I travel, I keep a few things consistent.

Omega 3, magnesium, electrolytes, vitamin D. Basics that support hydration, sleep and recovery, which are usually the first things to deteriorate when routine disappears.

I walk after meals when I can, even briefly.

Food choices get simpler rather than perfect.

And I stay more deliberate about water, because flying and air conditioning dehydrate faster than most people realise.

With our clients, we take it further.

Because many of them travel frequently, we give them specific frameworks rather than general advice.

A hotel checklist for managing their environment on arrival.

Clear guidance on what to order at major airports when options are limited.

A dining protocol for bigger meals, covering what to do before, during and after a large dinner to minimise the impact on digestion, sleep and how they feel the following day.

And a list of natural diuretic foods we incorporate strategically to help the body flush excess water weight after heavy meals or long flights. 

Things like asparagus, cucumber, ginger and green tea. Simple choices that make a noticeable difference within a day or two.

Once you have that clarity, travelling no longer means falling off track.

They move between cities, sit through dinners, sleep in hotels and still move forward.

Most people think results require ideal conditions.

The ones who make consistent progress have learned something different. The right systems work precisely because conditions are not perfect.

If your hunger feels unpredictable, that’s not a discipline issue.

If you’re fine during the day but overeat at night, that’s not a willpower problem.

And if you constantly feel like you’re “managing portions,” you’re probably solving the wrong problem.

Appetite isn’t random.

When blood sugar is unstable, hunger is unstable.

When hunger is unstable, portions increase.

Then you try to tighten things up.
Eat less. Be stricter. Push harder.
It works temporarily.

But if the underlying instability is still there, the pattern repeats.

When blood sugar stabilizes, hunger stabilizes.

When hunger stabilizes, portion control stops requiring effort.

If you’re fighting your appetite every day, that’s feedback.

Most people are addressing the symptom.
 
Very few are addressing the driver.

Low energy. Low libido. Fat that won't move. Poor recovery. More reactive than you used to be.

Your doctor looks at your bloodwork and says everything looks normal.

It's not that they're wrong. It's that they're asking the wrong question.

Standard lab reference ranges are built to detect disease, not to measure whether your body is actually performing. 

Those ranges are derived from population averages that include people who are overweight, sedentary, and metabolically compromised.

"Within range" means one thing only: you haven't crossed the threshold for a diagnosis.

But your physiology doesn't collapse overnight. It degrades quietly for years while every test appears normal.

Markers like fasting insulin, ApoB, hs-CRP, thyroid hormones, and androgens can silently influence metabolism, energy, body composition, and recovery long before disease appears. 

And these systems do not operate in isolation. 

Metabolism, hormones, inflammation, thyroid function, recovery, and cardiovascular health are deeply interconnected. When one begins to drift, others follow.

Looking at a single marker in isolation never tells the full story.

This is why high performers go deeper. 

They measure the biomarkers that matter, then interpret them as a system, identifying patterns across metabolism, inflammation, hormones, and recovery rather than viewing each marker on its own.

Most people assume low energy, brain fog or irritability are mindset problems.

But biology plays a bigger role than most of us realise.

In a study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry, researchers gave prison inmates either a daily multivitamin or a placebo. 

The group receiving vitamins committed significantly fewer violent and antisocial acts than the placebo group.

The takeaway isn't that vitamins eliminate crime. 

It's that nutrition can influence behaviour, mood and impulse control more than we think.

Micronutrients like B12, magnesium, iron and vitamin D are involved in everything from brain function to stress regulation to energy production. 

When the body is lacking those raw materials, performance drops. 

Focus becomes harder. 
Energy fluctuates. 
Mood becomes less stable.

And maybe that's not a discipline problem. 

Maybe the system just doesn't have what it needs to function properly.

Sometimes what looks like a motivation problem is actually a physiology problem. 

The body needs certain inputs to produce certain outputs. 

When those inputs are missing, it doesn't matter how hard you push.

You're just running on empty.

Strauss Zelnick is 66 years old. In this image, he was around 60.

Most men at that age are not operating anywhere near their full capacity. 

They have lost a meaningful amount of muscle, gained body fat, their sleep is inconsistent, their energy fluctuates, and they begin managing blood pressure, cholesterol, or other early warning signs.

They accept it as normal.

He runs multi billion dollar companies and still trains consistently.

That is not luck. It is long term discipline.

Between 35 and 45, most men scale their careers while quietly lowering the standards around their health. Work expands. Stress increases. Responsibility grows. 

But structure around training, nutrition, and recovery starts slipping.

Nothing dramatic happens overnight. Performance just gradually becomes average.

Strauss is not trying to be 25 again. 

He is protecting strength, conditioning, and metabolic health in his sixties because he understands that physical capacity supports leadership capacity.

The body you carry at 60 reflects the standards you enforced at 45.

Most executives measure everything in business, yet guess when it comes to their physiology. 

The ones who remain sharp, lean, and capable treat their health as an asset that requires systems and oversight.

Ramadan does not have to mean losing momentum.

Most professionals struggle during this month for one reason.

Control the first 15 minutes at Iftar instead of grazing. 
Keep protein high at Iftar and Suhoor. 
Lift 2 to 3 times per week. 
Reduce volume but keep the weight challenging. 
Walk daily to support recovery and metabolic control.

You can maintain strength. You can even progress with the right structure.

Sitting Is Part of Leadership. Here's How to Make Sure It Doesn't Cost You.

If you're in a senior role, you're probably sitting for eight, nine, maybe ten hours a day. Calls, meetings, travel, dinners. The job doesn't leave mu

Most people think metabolism “breaks” in their 40s.

That’s not what the data shows.

Large-scale research on aging tells us something more nuanced:

Your metabolism doesn’t suddenly crash at 40.

What changes is muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, and recovery capacity.

Starting in midlife, we naturally begin to lose muscle if we’re not actively training.

Less muscle means a lower resting metabolic rate.

It also means your body handles carbs differently and stores fat more easily.

At the same time, sleep quality often declines. Stress increases. Activity drops.

That combination, not age alone, is what drives most midlife weight gain.

By the time we reach our 60s, research shows immune function and inflammation regulation become more important factors in overall health and energy.

So the real change isn’t “you hit your 40s and everything falls apart.”

The change is this:

In your 20s and 30s, you can get away with poor habits.

In your 40s and beyond, you pay for them.

Muscle becomes non-negotiable.
Strength training becomes protective.
Protein intake matters more.
Sleep becomes a performance tool, not a luxury.
Aging is biological.

But how fast you decline is heavily influenced by behavior.

In America, the average retirement age for men is 66.
Average male life expectancy is around 76

That is a ten year window.

Now look at what that decade often includes.

Roughly 7 in 10 U.S. adults are overweight or obese.
Nearly 9 in 10 adults over 65 take at least one prescription medication.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death.
Type 2 diabetes and cognitive decline increase sharply with age. 

These do not begin at retirement

They compound quietly for decades.

So after 45 years of building wealth, what are most people retiring into?

More time.
But less capacity.
More freedom.
But more limitation.

Financial independence with physical restriction.

What you repeat in your 40s becomes your baseline in your 60s.

Body composition.
Insulin sensitivity.
Inflammation.
Hormonal output.

These do not self correct.

They respond to structure, precision, and oversight.

Most men manage their portfolio more carefully than their physiology.

The ones who stay strong, lean, sharp, and independent into their 60s do not leave it to chance.

They treat their health like an asset that requires strategy.

Because long term performance is not preserved by accident.

It is built deliberately.

Most decline does not feel dramatic.

It feels manageable.

You can manage five hours of sleep.
You can manage skipping structured training.
You can manage another business dinner.
You can manage being “in range” on paper.

And for years, nothing breaks.

Until one day your energy is lower than it used to be.
Your waistline is wider than it should be.
Your focus takes more effort than it once did.

 And “manageable” has quietly become your baseline.

That is the hard most men drift into.

The other hard is intentional.

Training when it is inconvenient.
Protecting sleep when work spills over.
Structuring nutrition instead of negotiating with it.
Tracking the markers that actually determine long-term performance.

Both require effort.

One compounds strength, energy, and longevity.

The other compounds fatigue and slow erosion.

You do not avoid hard.

You choose which direction it compounds.

Most leadership roles involve a lot of sitting

If you are at a desk 8 to 10 hours a day, there is a cost.

Lower insulin sensitivity.
Weaker glutes.
Tight hips.
Rounded shoulders.
Lower daily energy output.

Training a few times per week does not fully offset long hours of inactivity.

Total daily movement matters.
Muscle mass matters.

If your role requires sitting, your system has to be built around it.

Daily movement targets.
Proper strength training.
Mobility work to restore posture.
An environment that supports performance.

Sitting may be part of the job.

Physical decline does not have to be.

Tariq was executing at a high level. But internally, things were falling apart.
