I work as part of the Community Access Team (CAT - formally EIT) and assess patients within the Emergency Department of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. We are a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, assistant practitioners and nurses, who complete functional assessments to ensure safe and appropriate discharges from A+E.  Our main remit is to avoid inappropriate admissions to the hospital, and arrange for community services to support patients whom may require additional support.  I initially started this job as a 10 month secondment, but was delighted to be offered a permanent position in June 2017.

Senior Occupational Therapist

I completed 3 rotations before moving to a senior clinical position within the trust.  These were:

Community Rehabilitation at Dereham Hospital (8 months)
Norfolk Adult Social Services / Integrated Housing and Adaptations Team (12 months)
Home Ward (8 months)

As demand required, I also assisted the Rapid Response team at Wymondham, the Norwich Community Therapy Team, Alder Ward at Norwich Community Hospital and the Southern Duty team for Social Services at Wymondham.

During my time on the rotation, I developed my skills in discharge planning, rehabilitation and housing adaptations.  I also sought additional responsibilities including: Systmone National User Group (SNUG) website testing, and participating in Integrated Care Organisation (ICO) meetings.

My responsibilities included performing assessments of patient's needs, and eligibility for domiciliary care, in accordance with Norfolk Adult Social Services' FACS criteria.  This role was primarily based in an acute hospital, but also involved home visits and reviews of services.

This role primarily involved working with post-graduate students, in the Faculty of Science.

Marks and Spencer

I worked at M+S for several years, mostly at evenings and weekends, but also as a full-time worker, before resuming my studies.  My role was primarily based on the shop floor, and I developed a good understanding of customer service, marketing, and sales.  Furthermore, I developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of short-codes, which vexes me, to this day.

Additional responsibilities included: managing promotions on wines and fresh produce, manning the store's CCTV system during cash collection at close of business, and assisting with depositing the store's takings in their secure vault.

I am an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist (OT68931).  I currently specialise in Admission Avoidance assessments.  I am open to chats about emerging technologies, open source software and research collaboration.  I am keen to develop my teaching and research skills.
