I am an experienced and dedicated educator. I have been married over 40 years to Dr. Sharron T. Jones, and we have two daughters with excellent careers in the medical field. Also, I have a grandson who will be attending college in the Fall of 2019. In 1979, I enrolled in Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama and after three years, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree. I returned home and was hired as an elementary teacher. During my tenure in the Bessemer City School District, I also served as a principal and assistant principal at the elementary and secondary levels. One of the greatest accomplishments I received in the Bessemer City School District was when my peers voted and awarded me through the Bessemer Education Association the "Administrator of the Year Award" in 1993. Since relocating to the state of Georgia, I have served in the capacity of principal of Ronald E. McNair High School. During my tenure here we as a team received the "Race to the Top Grant". Over a five year period the graduation rate increased from 32.5% to 71.8%. In addition, Ronald E. McNair High School was awarded the Governor's Cup for increasing the SAT scores more than 5% in one year. After serving six years at Ronald E. McNair High, in June of 2012, I was reassigned to Stone Mountain High School to duplicate the same results academically on a higher scale. Many achievements have been accomplished during my tenure at Stone Mountain High School, but, I would like to highlight two main achievements. One, Stone Mountain High increased its CCRPI overall state academic score by 10.7% in one academic year (2017). The Georgia State Department of Education (GaDOE) categorized our school among the 61 schools recognized in the DeKalb County School District of "Beating the Odds". Secondly, after my team and I received this academic recognition, I was invited to the GAEL Conference in Jekyll Island (July 9 - 13, 2017) to tell "our story". Yes! I am "The Turn Around Principal".
