I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1996 and have been practicing as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist for almost 25 years. I have worked in core Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), an inpatient adolescent therapeutic community, and in outreach projects with Somali refugees and children in the care system. I have specialised in working with Looked After Children since 2000 and spent 7 years between 2004-2011 setting up and managing an in-house psychological consultation service for Brent Children’s Services. Between October 2011 and May 2019, I took a partial career break whilst my children were young but during this break from the NHS, I worked part-time as an independent practitioner primarily offering therapy and training to children, families, professionals and carers working with both Adopted and Looked After Children as well as undertaking some court assessments and private work. In June 2019 I returned to statutory services as part of the Clinical Team in Hammersmith and Fulham’s Children’s Services. In addition to working directly with young people and their families, my key role there is to embed systemic practice within the organisation which we do through individual, team, and whole systems consultation. My primary focus of self-reflexivity is how workers, teams, and the organisation are working towards anti-oppressive practice and imaginative drawing on different bodies of knowledge (including lived experience).
