An Engineer is a problem-solver, and that is the main reason I became one. I do not actually remember when my interest in science, mathematics and technological innovation has started, but I do remember being curious about how these subjects could provide us a better understanding of the world we live. My interest in advanced analytics came forward while doing my research in computational geomechanics. There I have had to utilize laboratory data to fit a mathematical model for constitutive relationships - part of my PhD Thesis - using a genetic algorithm - this last originally from another colleague. The mathematical constitutive model and the insights taken from the data have granted me a national distinction (2016) and the opportunity to represent Portugal in Seoul on the behalf of the Portuguese Geotech. Society (2017). Somehow, I identify this as the fist time I have had to sell an idea to a client, and I loved it. After my PhD I was certain of my choice: leaving academia and moving towards a challenging career where I could combine the fun of coding with the opportunity of adding value to my organization and/or my clients' business. It was the best decision I have ever made.
