The topic of human issues/factors in automation has been broadly researched since mid-XX century. Yet little research covers the managerial aspects and using AI/ML. We looked into that gap.

- Cross-referenced secondary research (academic and populist) on human use of automation (design and management considerations) with primary qualitative research on contemporary managerial practices within AI/ML automation projects in consulting. 

- Multiple case study of consultancies in various industries working on automation with AI, ranging from technology specialists to design and management consultancies. 

- Analysed managerial and design practices through the lens of human-centred vs technology-centred principles within use, misuse, disuse, and abuse of automation.

- Summarised the considerations accounted for in automation projects based on theory and real-world examples

- Concluded with implications of dismissing “human factors” and recommendations for further research
