I believe in a world where the air we breathe and the water we drink is equally as clean and unpolluted as it was when I was a child growing up in a small Michigan town. It is this belief that has inspired me to study engineering and apply my knowledge and expertise to the development of a cleaner, sustainable and more renewable future. My motivation lies in a question I frequently ask myself, "what can I do to make life on this planet better?" This is my personal mission statement and guides me through every aspect of my life, my 23km bike ride to work, my vegetarian diet, my education and my employment decisions are all answers to this question. I'm a mechanical engineer with a PhD in thin film evaporation and 7+ years of experience in the research and development of electrochemical systems such as fuel cells and electrolyzers. My expertise lies in multi-phase flow simulation and experimentation developed through the course of my PhD and further improved as a scientist at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. -Demonstrated passion and innovation in engineering by conceptualizing a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) in my free time to help reduce the weight, improving battery life of POCs and improve the quality of life for people suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). -Shown excellent leadership qualities in managing several multi-disciplinary research projects on flow optimization, corrosion protection coatings and electrolysis system design. -Experience in product development with emphasis on cost reduction for introduction in to developing markets. -Proven track record of innovative outside-the-box solutions to develop new and improve existing commercial products and product designs. -Demonstrated ability to motivate, manage and lead research teams in cutting edge state-of-the-art technologies.
