Led UX design work to plan and manage communications as an open, modular system, minimising cognitive load, creating detailed development specifications and prototypes.
Created a design system based on GDS standards with domain-specific design patterns to achieve consistency across the design programme.
Ran process mapping workshops using task analysis with subject matter experts, identifying and documenting requirements.
Planned, carried out, and analysed user research to evaluate proposed design standards and icons using Axure prototypes running on the target hardware, identifying opportunities to improve the design.

TaxCalc

TaxCalc provides accountancy software to over 60,000 businesses, accountancy practices and individuals in the UK.
- Supported the development of a design system and implemented it as a website with supporting instructional material, interactive examples and design patterns. Further implementation support was provided by developing an Axure library and template files to make prototyping quicker and easier. 
- Delivered UX training remotely to 3 sprint teams, covering the science behind UX design principles, research and testing. 
- Developed a strategy to address the problems of significant design and development debt, supported by a programme of ongoing user research and testing.

Trustopia

Carried out process mapping and gap analysis to develop a more flexible, customisable product. Designed reports and dashboards to help customers make fast, effective decisions from mass screening. 
Conducted competitor research to understand how to position the service.

Springboard

One-on-one weekly mentoring call with students to guide them through learning and practising their UX design skills, particularly as applied to a capstone project.

Three UK

Worked with multiple agile teams to deliver promotions and sales, prioritising customer touchpoints with Adobe Analytics, and working with graphic designers and copy editors to design effective user journeys. 
Consolidated 5 floating widgets with poor user understanding and engagement into a single interactive page element. User testing concluded that the redesigned approach was visually less obtrusive and transformed the level of customer engagement.
Worked with stakeholders to define the requirements for a microsite to support Three's wholesale proposition, refining the design based on user testing, and writing detailed user stories for the delivery team.

Distribution Technology (DT) is the award-winning provider of Dynamic Planner, the UK’s most widely used digital risk profiling and financial planning service. My role was to understand user needs and use this understanding to design, test and support the delivery of an outstanding user experience.

UX Manager

For over 20 years I have been responsible for research and design in complex fields including fintech, defence, telecoms, and legal tech. I’ve led teams and projects, created design systems, and trained other designers and researchers. In recent years I’ve helped develop legal tech and legal design, simplifying processes and making legal documents accessible and engaging with visualisation, better information architecture, and clearer text. 

I have 2 core design strengths: usability grounded in human factors, and a computer science background that helps me collaborate with development teams to rapidly create effective solutions to complex problems.
