I lead the team that is implementing Denver's Building Performance Policy for the Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency in the High Performance Buildings and Homes division. Denver is the fourth city in the USA to complete its rulemaking for implementing a building performance requirement for existing buildings and the first to use a trajectory model for the energy targets. The policy applies to more than 11,000 buildings in the City and County of Denver!

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

Detailed to DC's Department of Energy and Environment as part of the American Cities Climate Challenge, I was responsible for project management, stakeholder facilitation, outreach and education, and partner management for specific projects that accelerated the implementation of Sustainable DC, Climate Ready DC, and Clean Energy DC plan actions. I was a member of the team that developed technical guidance and rulemaking for the Building Energy Performance Standards program (the first in the USA). I led stakeholder engagement efforts and managed the Task Force (45+ Task Force meetings over 1.5 years, 4 working group sessions with 140+ participants, 50+ public speaking events = 82,000+ impressions)

Green Schools Alliance

At the Green Schools Alliance, I directed the growth of the organization from 2,974 to 8,071 members over a 2-year period and performed all operational and management functions, including budget development, board management, annual audits and tax filings, contract negotiations, accounts/payable receivables, human resources, and database management. I supervised communications, development, and program staff of 10 part-time and full-time remote employees and coordinated steering committees and advisory councils. Two big projects included the designing of a structure, user interface, and content for an online K-12 sustainability tracking and roadmap tool and developing and managing the first national collaboration of 25 district sustainability directors, affecting 4+ million students, 6,088 schools and 604 million sq. ft. of buildings.

At the NYC DOE, I directed district-wide sustainability initiatives for New York City’s public K-12 school system, reporting to the CEO of School Facilities. In that role, I coordinated energy, waste, ecology and eco-literacy initiatives through a network of sustainability coordinators and facility managers in 1,869 schools, including management of Energy Star Portfolio Manager accounts for 1,314 buildings. Our team developed and coordinated multiple annual training events and partner meetings, supervised departmental staff and training, and provided data analysis of programs. I developed extensive network and partnerships with key stakeholders and coordinated steering committee work. To highlight one project, I negotiated Zero Waste Schools program with mayor’s office, resulting in 3.1 million dollars in additional funding and doubling the Office of Sustainability staff from 8 to 16.

The Westminster Schools

At Westminster, I was responsible for all major construction/renovation projects and campus-wide sustainability projects (energy/water audit projects, waste management, indoor environmental quality, etc.). Our team achieved award-winning energy/water reduction efforts as I managed Energy Star Portfolio Manager account, sustainability competition management, and classroom engagement; our work resulted in 29% reduction in energy use and 42% reduction in water use. I coordinated steering committee work and stakeholder engagement, performed departmental office functions, including work order facilitation and accounts payable functions, and co-managed $2.7 million operational budget encompassing 750,000 sq. ft. of classroom and administration space in 13 buildings.

I co-managed $2.4 million operational budget encompassing 880,000 sq. ft. of space in 28 buildings, performed front office of facilities department, including work order management and accounts payable functions. I coordinated all facility department sustainability efforts, including utility reduction, waste stream management, workplace safety inspections, and environmental remediation efforts and I served as owner liaison for 12+ major and minor renovation projects.
