I ditched medicine. I always thought I would be a doctor while I was growing up. After my mother survived the carnage of stage IV Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I was set on bringing hope to cancer patients and their families. By the time I was a Junior, I began to see my peers passing me by… I would describe it as a mid-college crisis. It was during this time of deep self-reflection that I concluded that medicine and I were in a forced relationship, and it was time to breakup. With newfound curiosity, I began to focus on my strengths and where I could make the most impact. And that is when it happened; an epiphany came to me. I realized I could change the world doing what I already loved, undergraduate recruitment admissions and recruitment. My career in post-secondary education flowered and I excelled in career coaching and resume writing. In time, I yearned for more and my love for technology, curiosity, and learning led me on an exodus to EdTech. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to execute full cycle recruiting solutions for Pluralsight and create exceptional hiring experiences for hiring teams in the online learning industry. Now, I am thrilled to be working with Symtec as an IT Technician for a company whose mission is to elevate the customer experience. From the beginning I have always had skin in the game. First it was my mother, then it was my passion for learning. Ultimately, everything I do is driven by the people I love. I leverage empathy and human connection to find solutions that bring other’s hopes and aspirations to life. So, yes. I ditched medicine and I don’t regret it!
