I support reproductive rights & vehemently oppose the inhumane law Texas has adopted (which, to the shame of our nation, SCOTUS has refused to overturn) to put a bounty on women. Venture Lawyer: I'm a lawyer representing emerging companies (startups and growth companies) and the venture and growth funds that invest in them. I cofounded and Chair the Emerging Companies Practice at Lowenstein Sandler LLP in New York, where I've been since I was a summer associate in 1991. Investor: I co-founded and co-lead First Close Partners, through which we invest in VC funds led by underrepresented VCs. We have invested in > 50 venture and growth funds in the US, Africa, Europe, LatAm, the Middle East. Venture Capital Professor: I've taught VC & Angel Investing at Columbia Business School's MBA program for 16 years &, before that, I taught Startup Law and Internet Law (among other topics) at Rutgers Law School for 8 years. I am involved in civic and social justice matters and serve on the boards of Center for Policing Equity (CPE, where I am Vice Chair), Fisk University, Black Women Talk Tech & the Orchid Foundation and was on the board of Harvey Mudd College. I care deeply about Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and have written on (and taken action on) the topic. I was born in Brooklyn and, during high school, worked the overnight shift at Bell's Bagels on Flatlands, burning my hands packing hot bagels before sunrise on Saturday mornings so that trucks fanning out across the TriState area would spread the joy of fresh Brooklyn bagels & bialys!
