My path to becoming a businesswoman and philanthropist has been an incredible evolution and spiritual journey. I feel very blessed to share my own story to hopefully provide context and inspiration. And ultimately, I want to offer you a new form of selfless giving and altruism! Born in a very small and poverty-stricken village in Colombia, I was raised by my grandmother. Lacking access to education or financial resources. It was very difficult and we experienced suffering in various forms, but it also taught me self-reliance. Shaped by my own early challenges, I knew mostly great suffering and isolation as a little girl. Fortunately, I learned the power of self-education and realized my life’s purpose of helping others at a young age. As an emboldened teenager from a middle of nowhere village in Colombia, I also began growing my place in the professional world. Finding a knack for developing sales, I started my first company in my late teens. Many other companies in many countries (e.g., Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru, United States) have followed. Some successes and some relative failures, each has given me the opportunity to personally grow and evolve. My experience far outweighs anything I learned in the various Universities I’ve attended. One important truth I have come to realize is that money isn’t the core answer to our problems. Specifically, when it comes to philanthropy, money doesn’t address the long-term needs of communities. On the contrary, money donations tend to nurture in people the false ideals of consumerism, individualism and victimhood. I want to offer a new way to contemplate altruism. We don’t ask for money donations! Being a part of our movement just requires your time and willingness to give yourself to others, and to share your own knowledge and worldly experience. Altruism Now transforms communities whose main problems center around lack of education and missing cultural support, by offering them free educational programs and mentoring. We focus on fundamental concepts like conscious mind, emotional intelligence and financial competency. Our main goal is to help social leaders in local communities develop sustainable projects. We are interested in teaching people in need how to fish! Do you want to be a part of our movement and donate your time as a mentor?
